Poll: Doesn’t The C8 Corvette Look Better Than Other Mid-Engine Supercars?

Beauty, as they say, is the in the eye of the beholder, but even so, aesthetics are one of most important aspects of a new sports car. Sure, 0-to-60-mph acceleration figures, Nürburgring lap times, and horsepower bragging rights are all critical, but styling still remains one of the biggest factors for any buyer in this segment. So, with that in mind, we’re taking a look at the design of the new-for-2025 C8 Corvette ZR1 and comparing it to a smattering of rival mid-engine supercars before asking – which is your favorite?

Let’s start with the hometown favorite, the 2025 Corvette ZR1. As the new range-topper of the C8 Corvette lineup, the Corvette ZR1 commands attention thanks to a pointed front fascia, prominent aerodynamics, and sharp contours, all of which blend heritage-inspired cues (remember the split window?) with modern lines. Its wide stance and low profile enhance its imposing presence, while the massive (optional) rear wing and quad central exhaust tips underscore its performance intentions.

The Ferrari 296 GTB, a rival to the C8 Corvette ZR1.

Ferrari 296 GTB

Up next, the Ferrari 296 GTB brings a decidedly different flavor to the table with a design that blends elegance and sportiness. Its flowing lines and compact proportions give it a sense of agility, while signature Ferrari elements, like the slender headlights and prominent rear haunches, maintain its Italian flair.

Ford GT

Heading back to Detroit, we have the Ford GT, which presents an unmistakable look thanks a long, low profile, wide body, and sleek aerodynamics. Its aerodynamic tunnels and teardrop shape give it a purposeful look that echoes its racing heritage.

Lamborghini Temerario

By comparison, the Lamborghini Temerario presents aggressive styling that’s all about making a bold first impression. With sharp angles, a low-slung stance, and hexagonal lighting signatures, the Temerario  looks to showcases Lamborghini’s penchant for eye-popping style. The combination of fierce lines and bold detailing make this supercar look like it’s in motion, even at a standstill.

Maserati MC20

Then we have the Maserati MC20, which brings a more refined approach to the traditional mid-engine proportions, emphasizing sleek lines and a smooth silhouette over hard edges. The gentle curves flow harmoniously, giving it a sophisticated, yet sporty appearance.

McLaren GTS

Finally, we have the McLaren GTS, which seems to embody a minimalist, performance-driven aesthetic, with clean lines and a sleek, aerodynamic profile. The design language focuses on smooth surfaces and purposeful design choices, giving it a futuristic look without overtly aggressive elements.

Indeed, each of these mid-engine supercars brings its own unique style to the segment, but we still want to know – which of these designs speaks to you? Is the C8 Corvette ZR1 still your pick, or is there another design that catches your eye? Vote in the poll below!

  1. Purchased my ceramic matrix gray metallic C8 convertible with the body colored trim option. I think all the black goo gaws stuck all over the outside seriously detract from the sculptured form of the vehicle. Which has an excellent balance of curves AND sharp angles. Unlike most other super cars which are either all swoopy curves or severe angles.

  2. I’m sure this isn’t any bias in this poll.

  3. No, in base form the proportions are off. The widebody E-Ray, Z06, and ZR1 clean up the looks a lot. This has stopped me from wanting to upgrade my C7 to a C8 until I can save up a bit more. Funny enough the website gives me an error when I try to vote for something other than the Corvette.

Right. GM Authority is rigging the poll because we have so much to gain from doing so.

Snarky sarcasm aside, what error did you get?

  4. “Form follows function “ – my choice isn’t the fastest car but I wish that it was a selection in this poll: Porsche Cayman GT-4. A classic moderate design.

    1. I was waiting for someone to mention the 718 / Cayman / Boxster. They’re great cars, but we didn’t include them since they’re not in the same league as the C8 from a performance standpoint. You’d need to step way up to the GT4 RS to get the performance of a Stingray Z51.

  5. Being you can buy 3 Zo6’s for the price of a Ford GT, is a C8 really in same league? Yes a ZO6 will run with it and no need for a ZR-1 realistically.
If I am going to jump on the C8 train I will have to have a Zora. The horsepower number will be dumber then a ZR-1 but hey if that’s the power plant it comes with oh well.
Are we guessing north of 1,500 HP ? Absolutely nobody needs that much.

  6. Literally every car on this list looks superior to the tacky Vette. Over-busy block looking rear end. GM fanbois unite.. I guess??? 🤣 It’s FUGLY. Good thing it’s a performer.

    1. I agree! As a C7 Z06 owner, I cannot see the allure in the new C8 design. It appears to be ‘trying too hard to be part of the Italian super car crew’ IMO. Guess I’ll be keeping my front engine 650hp/650tq for a bit longer.

  7. Let me guess the guys who do not like the c8 wear New Balance tennis shoes jean shorts gold chains and tuck their shirts in.

    1. 😂😂😂 you just described 80% of total Vette owners. Guys who can’t afford to drive our cars. Most are retired guys who don’t modify or even tint windows because it’s too much for them. The C8 lacks all the class and style of the Europeans and Germans. It’s a great card, for an American entry, but why settle for a car that you need to apologize for. It’s never been a secret it was modeled and benchmarked from a Ferrari. In typical American fashion you have to resort to name calling to make yourself feel big or important. That’s why I can’t drive a Vette. The majority of owners act like douches.

  8. Ergonomic and packaging, the C8 is a great car, but being a great fan of Corvettes, I have to say I hate the design.
It looks hippy, almost like a truck from a three quarter front view, and all those creases, lines and all. It seems like it should have a Mohawk on it.
I would have loved to see a more mature, smoother and elegant design, (think Maclaren Elva), like maybe the design language if Ferrari.

  9. I’m 32 now, and got into Corvettes when I was about 17. My first purchase was a blue 2002 C5 Coupe with the 6 speed. Years later I bought a 2001 black coupe 6 speed as well. I loved the C6, especially the Z06 and ZR1. I watched the C7 reveal live. When it pulled into the stage, I thought it was a perfect successor. I couldn’t have thought of a better design myself. I also watched the C8 reveal live. Same feeling. When it rolled out, I was shocked how incredible it looked. The looks may be divisive for some, but as someone who really dove headfirst into Corvette history and the philosophy of the car itself, it made perfect sense. I knew the Corvette was destined to move the engine to the back and I embraced the change. The Corvette is a progressive vehicle that’s goal is to evolve and adapt to the latest performance advancements. It’s not a car like the 911 which is fighting tooth and nail to keep the looks confined within certain parameters. For me personally, I think it is the embodiment of what the C8 should be. They exaggerated the features on the C7, and kept a lot of modern Corvette styling cues, while moving to a completely new layout and proportions. I think the C8 Z06 and ZR1 are just phenomenal looking. SO MUCH road presence. It looks like what a modern, midengine Corvette should in my opinion. The front I give a 10/10, the side view an 9/10, and the back an 8/10. It could look better if not for the storage compartment, but the Corvette has to be more practical than other sports cars. That’s my favorite thing about Vettes. You can daily them and they don’t require much maintenance. They’re comfortable, and on top of that you can fit a lot of things in them if you have to. But anyways, the C8 is a winner. Some will hate on it of course, but the vast majority of people I’ve asked really like it. People STILL give a base C8 a lot of attention 4 years later. You can’t go to a gas station without someone asking about it!

  11. I’m 74. Love my C8 Z06, Had a great time at Spring Mountain. Looking forward to the ZR1. Enough horsepower? Never… Great looks, drivable all the time. Far less $$$ than all the others. What can I say. As long as I can still get in and out of the car, give me all you got.
