No. 9 NASCAR Chevy Truck Wins, No. 42 Chevy Wrecked At Homestead: Video

Homestead-Miami Speedway was a hotbed of action during the Truck Series race on October 26th, 2024. The No. 9 NASCAR Chevy Silverado RST of Grant Enfinger visited Victory Lane after a lengthy battle with the No. 98 Ford F-150 of Ty Majeski, and on the other side of the results, the No. 42 Silverado of Matt Mills was wrecked by a Ford competitor, seemingly on purpose.

Enfinger’s success can be attributed to a risky call from the pit box. He and his competitors had to manage dwindling tanks of fuel in the closing laps, but elected to stay out during a late-race pit stop cycle in hopes of staying out front. At one point, Enfinger had a 17.5-second lead over Majeski as two other race trucks on a similar pit stop strategy ran out of fuel, including the No. 38 F-150 of Layne Riggs and the No. 2 NASCAR Chevy Silverado of Nick Sanchez.

Driver of the No. 9 NASCAR Chevy truck, Grant Enfinger, celebrates his Homestead win.

“At the end of the day, [crew chief] Jeff [Stankiewicz] just had the best truck out here,” said Enfinger, who battled back from an earlier incident that damaged the No. 9 NASCAR Chevy truck and put him a lap down. “Our car was really fast after about five laps yesterday [in practice] and was the same way today. Jeff did a good job managing me with the tires and then managing me with the fuel. I feel like I saved at least 20 percent more than I did in the first run. Jeff was on me pretty hard obviously and the 38 [Layne Riggs] ran out and the 2 [Nick Sanchez] did too.”

Meanwhile, on Lap 76 of 134, the No. 42 NASCAR Chevy Silverado of Matt Mills was taken out by the No. 66 F-150 of Conner Jones. Mills’ race truck slammed the wall and sustained heavy right-side damage before bursting into flames and coming to a rest in the infield. Mills was able to exit the truck under his own power, but was transported to a hospital due to smoke inhalation and held for observation before being discharged on October 28th, 2024.

“I can’t wait to be back at the racetrack at Martinsville this weekend and continue doing what I love. It was definitely a scary situation I’ve had but it’s part of the sport,” Mills said on social media after being released.

Jones was given a two-lap penalty during the race. At this time, NASCAR has not announced further penalty to the No. 66 Ford team.
