Manual-Only 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera T Unveiled With No Direct GM Rival

The 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera T is back for the most recent 992.2 generation of the iconic luxury sports car. True to form as a performance car that prioritizes simplicity over opulence, the Carrera T now comes exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission. When Porsche revived the “T” (which stands for “Touring”) model in 2017, buyers had a choice of manual or automatic. Now, three pedals are mandatory.

Power comes from the 911’s base engine, a rear-mounted turbocharged 3.0L flat-6 rated at 388 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque. Porsche estimates a 0-60 mph time of 4.3 seconds for the coupe and 4.5 seconds for the cabriolet. Speaking of which, this new generation marks the first-ever 911 Carrera T with a convertible option.

It’s more than just the manual gearbox – and its gorgeous open-pore walnut shifter – that make the Carrera T different from the base 911. The T model comes standard with the Sport Chrono package, a sport exhaust system, bigger front brakes with six-piston calipers, four-wheel steering, PASM sport suspension, and staggered 20-inch front, 21-inch rear wheels.

We love that this is a manual-only sports car, but it goes a little overboard with advertising that fact. Shift pattern logos are emblazoned on the rear side windows, the passenger side of the dash, and even the puddle lamps. There’s also an “MT” emblem by the shifter to remind the driver that shifting happens manually, and a “Carrera T” stripe package rounds out the unique look.

For the 2025 model year, GM’s only performance cars with manual transmissions are the V-Blackwing variants of the Cadillac CT4 and CT5. With the discontinuation of the Chevy Camaro and the choice to make the C8 Corvette automatic-only, cars with two doors and manual transmissions are extinct from GM’s North American lineup. That means that even with the increasingly varied C8 Corvette lineup, there’s no GM vehicle quite like the 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera T since its manual transmission is a big part of the car’s identity.

Naturally, one advantage that the Chevy Corvette may always have over the Porsche 911 is bang for the buck. Pricing for the 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera T begins at $135,995 for the coupe and $149,295 for the cabriolet. Price-wise, that slots the T between the base 911 and the hybrid GTS model, packing 532 horsepower.

  1. My opinion don’t shoot me: – Obviously from my chosen name I love Porsche. However, I also have owned both the manual and PDK (Doppelkupplung) transmissions in my Porsche’s and my choice is the PDK hands down. You could always shift manually with the paddles on the steering wheel if you want to play speed racer. There is a reason that gm installed a duel clutch transmission in the Vette – it’s better.

  2. Expensive as a Z06 but less performance than a Stingray.
