Gold Coast played host to almost 200,000 fans, giving them plenty of on-track action and drama to pay attention to on October 26th and 27th, 2024. While Race 21 on Saturday belonged to the Fords of Cam Waters and Thomas Randle, Sunday’s Race 22 fell right into Chevy’s hands as the No. 1 Supercars Chevy Camaro of Brodie Kostecki cruised to the victory.
Kostecki, hot off a win at the 2024 Bathurst 1000, took the pole position for Sunday’s race after finishing fifth during Saturday’s event. The 85-lapper was only slowed by one safety car period, which waved on Lap 1 after a multicar pileup in Turn 11. However, once the green flag fell, Kostecki leaped right back into action and surged into the lead with points leader Will Brown in the No. 87 Supercars Chevy in hot pursuit.
Kostecki continued to lead, stretching the gap as the race wore on. The margin of victory was 3.47 seconds, with Brown flashing across the line in the runner-up position, followed by Broc Feeney in the No. 88 Camaro in third. Waters’ No. 6 Ford Mustang GT and Randle’s No. 55 Mustang rounded out the top five.
“That was awesome, these guys pushed me once again, these friggin’ energy drink cars right up my arse the last few rounds,” Kostecki said, referencing the Ampol Red Bull Racing teammates, Brown and Feeney. “Credit to the whole team, they tuned it up for today, so stoked about that. Really fast car and it really came to life towards the end there. We’re probably going to jump into the ocean right about now because we’re all a bit hot and bothered.”

Race 21 on Saturday looked a bit different for the Supercars Chevy teams. The Mustang of Waters won by a whopping 9.4 seconds over his Ford teammate, Randle, while Feeney snuck into the final podium spot ahead of Matt Payne’s No. 18 Mustang, who finished fourth. As noted earlier, Kostecki secured a fifth-place finish in Saturday’s race, which made history as the first Gold Coast event to run green from start to finish without a single DNF.
It’s worth noting that Kostecki, who is the defending Supercars title champion, will leave his current Chevy team to drive a Ford Mustang GT in Supercars next year.
