Kostecki Wins 2024 Bathurst 1000 In No. 1 Supercars Chevy: Video

Brodie Kostecki, driver of the No. 1 Supercars Chevy Camaro, redeemed himself just one year after a painful loss in the Bathurst 1000. On October 10th, 2024, Kostecki and his codriver, Todd Hazelwood, found Victory Lane in the Australian Supercars Championship’s crown jewel enduro race on the challenging Mount Panorama circuit.

Kostecki, driving for Erebus Motorsport, held off the No. 88 Camaro of Broc Feeney to claim the coveted trophy. Feeney and Kostecki appeared evenly matched while the laps ticked down as the two Supercars Chevy teams gapped the field, according to a report from Supercars.com.

Feeney finished second, with championship leader Will Brown bringing the No. 87 Camaro across the line in a distant third, splitting duties with codriver Scott Pye to round out the podium.

The race was green until Matt Payne sent his No. 19 Ford Mustang GT for a spin after botching a shift on Lap 130. The field was neutralized for a restart, leaving Kostecki to fend off Feeney.

“Honestly I can’t believe it, this guy here did a great job the whole weekend, I knew we had a fast car, we just didn’t quite chase it enough there towards the end,” Kostecki said after the race. “George [Commins, Race Engineer] tuned it up for the end there, and we just had enough to stay in front of Broc. Big thank you to the whole team and Chiko, they came onboard for this round and I dare say they got their coverage.”

He added, “I just can’t believe it, I’m just in awe at the moment… The car was stellar throughout the whole day, and I’m honestly just in awe, and I can’t wait to have a drink with this guy tonight and the whole team, and we’ll celebrate it and enjoy the moment.”

The 2024 Bathurst 1000 broke several records. The finish percentage was 96.1 percent, breaking the previous record of 92.3 percent, set in 2018. Twenty race cars finished on the lead lap, breaking the previous record, which was 19 lead-lap finishers. In fact, Payne was the race’s only retirement.
