Lowriders have a reputation for their flashy looks and jaw-dropping hydraulic systems, and for anyone seated in one of these custom rides, they can be as thrilling as they are stylish. A recent viral video featuring a Chevy Impala lowrider on Whittier Boulevard in Los Angeles serves as a perfect example of this fact. Candy-colored paint jobs and booming sound systems are one thing, but this ride looks like it may have an ejection seat as well!
For those that don’t know, Whittier Boulevard is nothing short of legendary. This strip of pavement is largely regarded as the birthplace of lowrider culture, with the first examples of these iconic machines first cruising Whittier shortly after World War II.
In the short clip, we see a red, topless Chevy Impala stopped at an intersection, and things quickly escalate as the driver decides to put the car’s hydraulics to the test. With a flick of a few switches, the front end of the Impala begins to hop in the air, much to the delight of onlookers.
The video includes a few angles, with the first shot low to the ground along the side of the Chevy. The second angle, however, shows something a bit more humorous.
In the second angle, we see the excitement turn into a moment of panic for the passenger sitting in the front seat after she starts to lose her balance. We see the Impala’s front end bounce higher with each hop, and in a split-second, the car surges forward, lifting the nose even more dramatically. A secondary angle shows the passenger’s foot dangling in the air as she nearly gets thrown backward.
Fortunately, the Impala’s hydraulics settle the car back onto the ground, but the passenger gives the driver a piece of her mind with a few playful smacks on his baseball cap. If there’s one takeaway from this wild ride, it’s this – buckle up when cruising in a lowrider with hydraulics!

Maybe wear a seatbelt? What knuckleheads, but I love the response she gives him.
Great song, what a “ding dong” driver. LOL
What a way to ruin a gorgeous classic. I never understood this stupid trend.
Love the look of the new Impala.
