The 2025 Chevy Equinox debuts the compact crossover’s latest fourth generation, bringing with it updated styling, new safety features, an overhauled cabin, and a long list of important updates and changes. Interestingly, the 2025 Chevy Equinox is offered with a Universal Home Remote, linking the crossover to a variety of connected home features. However, this feature has been non-functional due to a software anomaly since the start of regular production, but now, GM Authority has learned when the Universal Home Remote will be functional again for the 2025 Chevy Equinox.
For the sake of clarification, some units of the 2025 Chevy Equinox were equipped with the Universal Home Remote (RPO code UG1) since the start of production. However, for those units equipped with this feature, the Universal Home Remote is currently non-functional.
Looking ahead, the Universal Home Remote will be available again next year, specifically later in the first quarter of 2025. In the meantime, vehicles built with a non-functional Universal Home Remote will be indicated as such with RPO code R6I on the window sticker. Buyers who purchase these vehicles will receive a $50 discount. The feature will eventually be activated through an over-the-air software update.
With regard to the 2025 Chevy Equinox LT trim level, the Universal Home Remote is included and only available via the Convenience Package II (ZRPO code Q3), which includes the following content (relevant RPO codes listed in parentheses):
- 8-way power driver seat adjuster (A2X)
- 2-way power driver seat adjuster (AL9)
- Cabin humidity and windshield sensor (ASV)
- Rainsense intermittent front wipers (CE1)
- Dual-zone automatic climate control (CJ2)
- Heated Wiper Park (CMO)
- Wireless Charging (K4C)
- AutoSense hands-free power programmable liftgate (TCP)
- Universal Home Remote (UG1)
- Sunglass holder (VK8)
- Roof rails (V2P)
Meanwhile, the Universal Home Remote is standard on Activ and RS trims.
For reference, the Universal Home Remote includes a programmable garage door opener. In its place, GM also offers the dealer-installed garage door opener (RPO code 5LE). Some units of the 2025 Chevy Equinox were ordered with the programmable garage door opener option, but those units were not built with the feature, prompting GM to issue a reimbursement.
For reference, the Universal Home Remote allows users to do things like open and close their garage door, activate and deactivate their home security system, and activate certain appliances at home.
As for the 2025 Chevy Equinox, all units are equipped as standard with the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine, while the GM D2 platform provides the underpinnings. Production takes place at the GM San Luis Potosà plant in Mexico.

When a feature such as this, a feature that has existed for many years in many vehicles, is non-functional and requires a software update in a redesigned and updated vehicle, it makes me think that car companies have ‘lost their way’. This is the easy stuff. Good grief, what are we to think about the more complex parts of the vehicle? I own a 2019 Impala and a 2023 Colorado. Impala – no issues with any of the tech in 5+ years and the $40K Impala has a universal remote. Colorado – multiple issues with the tech in 12 months and the $57K Colorado didn’t even offer a universal remote.
We just a 2025 equinox activ and it is not installed, the salesperson told us it had and I spent 2 hours on the phone with chevy getting it hooked up,
When it’s available when Chevy install it at their cost?
Forgot a word,it is not installed ,Chevy told me it was not in that model
