Here’s When 2025 Chevy Silverado MD Production Is Scheduled To Start

The 2025 model year of the Chevy Silverado MD or medium-duty truck, including the 4500 HD, 5500 HD and 6500 HD, is slated to go into production in the near future. Now, GM Authority has learned the currently scheduled start of regular production (SORP) for the 2025 Chevy Medium Duty.

According to the latest information, the 2025 Chevy Silverado MD will start rolling off the production line on Thursday, January 2nd, 2025. As with all production dates, this SORP estimate is tentative and subject to change until production actually begins.

Minor changes and updates are expected for the 2025 model year of the Chevy Silverado MD truck. These include the addition of new, louder trumpet-style horns to the truck’s equipment, with the available types consisting of the Single-note horn (RPO code U0Y) as standard fare on the WT trim and the Dual-note horn (RPO code U0Z) equipped as standard on the LT trim while being offered as an option on the WT.

Furthermore, the Chevy Silverado MD is expected to see the WT trim level regain the OnStar (RPO code UE1) and SiriusXM Radio (RPO code U2K) features at some point during the 2025 model year. These features were lost during the 2024 model year, but will eventually return to availability. The exact date for their reintroduction is unclear at this point.

Motivation for all 2025 Silverado MD configurations is supplied by the 6.6L V8 L5D turbodiesel Duramax engine developing 350 horsepower and 700 pound-feet of torque. This output is downrated compared to the power offered by the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine cranking out 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque in the Chevy Silverado HD. The lower-powered tune increases durability and lifespan for the engine.

Drivetrains offered in the truck include 2WD and 4WD configurations. Meanwhile, cog swaps are handled by the Allison 6-speed automatic transmission.

  1. The medium duty Silverado needs some substantial updates to remain competitive, the truck needs the newer Silverado cab, updated interior and exterior. More power wouldn’t hurt either. From what I’ve heard they are not selling very well and are only producing about 45 a day.

  2. Needs to have a better radio/nav or command screen like the smaller trucks.
