Here May Be Why Your 2025 Chevy Equinox Has Vibration, Rattle Or Boom Noise

The 2025 Chevy Equinox introduces an all-new fourth generation for the crossover, bringing with it updated styling, an overhauled cabin, a new trim level cadence, and a whole lot more. That all said, some 2025 Equinox customers may notice a vibration, rattle, or boom noise while driving. Now, General Motors has released a technical service bulletin to address the issue.

The technical service bulletin, or TSB, is tagged with bulletin number 24-NA-182, and applies to all models and configurations for the 2025 Chevy Equinox in the North American region. According to the bulletin, some customers have complained of a vibration or rattle noise in the vehicle body under light load while the engine is spinning at 1,800 to 2,000 rpm.

The noise is believed to be the result of improper seating for one or more active noise cancellation microphones in the vehicle headliner, which could cause the noise cancellation system output to vibrate or rattle the vehicle body.

To fix this issue, GM is instructing technicians to first test drive the vehicle in order to verify the condition, then inspect the noise cancellation microphones in all four of the headliner locations. If the microphones are found to be out of position, the technician will need to lower the headliner and properly install the microphones into their related retainers.

It’s uncertain exactly how many units of the 2025 Chevy Equinox may be affected by this issue. That said, Active Noise Cancellation (RPO code NKC) is equipped as standard across the 2025 Equinox lineup, as was also the case for the previous-generation Equinox.

Further interior features include an 11.2-inch diagonal infotainment screen mounted horizontally on the dash, as well as an 11-inch diagonal driver information center behind the steering wheel. The 2025 Equinox is also equipped with a long list of safety features, including Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning.

Motivation is provided by the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine, while the GM D2 platform provides the bones. Production takes place at the GM San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico.

  1. The first of MANY problems, no doubt. Which is why buying a ’25 is just plain dumb.

  2. Too funny that a system that is supposed to make the vehicle seem quieter… is actually doing the opposite. LOL

  3. I often wonder how stuff like this isn’t caught during testing.

    1. Well, in reality, after reading the article it seems like a minor manufacturing issue. Test vehicles are likely hand-built completely and perfectly to spec. This sounds like workers (live or robotic) not snapping the car together properly.

  4. My 2025 Chevy Equinox has had this hard core interior vibration since I bought it in September. My dealership service dept has just learned of this “bulletin” yesterday. Hopefully the fix will come soon. I love the car and i know all new models have their issues but the noise has got to go.

    1. I had the same ‘vibration’ issue. Dealer replaced front wheel bearings. 2d time they ‘re-seated’ the ANC microphones. Still have vibration when driving over 50 mps. Service Dept is saying that is characteristic of the CVT (transmission). I say, that’s a line of B.S. Wheel should NOT vibrate in brand new vehicle.

  5. Same issue with our 2025 Equinox. Love our Equinox. This defect is annoying. Dealership followed bulletin instructions. All microphones were checked, one was totally unseated rolling around in headliner. Corrected, but two days later vibration noise returned exactly as before, so understand we have to wait for GM to issue fix.

    1. Had the same issue and took it the dealership and I am still having the same issue issues as well. Not I have to wait until they can figure what’s causing the vibration. Which sounds like I’m driving on rumble strips, it’s VERY annoying. Wonder how long it will take GM to figure out the problem .

    2. EXACTLY Patricia. I am totally pleased with the re-design, but the vibration in the steering wheel is annoying and I’m concerned it may turn into a SAFETY factor. 1st dealer replace front bearings, then applied the Tech Bulletin for the ANCs, but wheel still vibrates above 50 mph. NOW dealer says it’s a characteristic of the CVT transmission – which is a line of B.S.

  6. Same issue with my 2025 Equinox. Taking it to dealership on Tuesday. The noise doesn’t happen all the time but when it does it sounds like I am driving over rumble strips.

  7. I wouldn’t say mines a vibration or boom, I have an isolated squeak that’s noticeable pronounced when going speeds over 35mph. This squeak seems to be coming from the passenger rear. For reference ours is a 2025 AWD.

  8. I have noticed mine only does it when my seats in the back are down. It is definitely annoying and hurts my ears. They better come up with a fix soon.

  9. Growling noise in my 2025 Equinox LT was result of the 2front wheel bearings being bad. Strange….only has 750 miles on odometer.

    1. Sandy – the dealer replaced BOTH front wheel bearings in my 2025 Equinox RS. Then the Tech Bulletin for ANC (microphone sensors not properly seated). Wheel still vibrates above 50 mph. Svc tech now saying it’s a characteristic of the CVT (transmission). That is a line of B.S.

  10. My new car has a vibration only acceleration. Took it to dealer said it was a faulty exhaust bracket. Nothing can be done until GM issues recall. Paperwork given to me when read, no problem found. Please get your story straight. Truth does not bother me.
