General Motors has released a Safety Recall for certain units of the 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 and 2018-2019 GMC Sierra 2500HD/3500HD that were produced with roof rail airbag inflators that may have defects in the end caps or sidewalls.
“General Motors is voluntarily recalling certain model-year 2018 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500s and 2018-2019 Silverado and Sierra 2500/3500 pickups for roof rail air bag inflators that may contain a manufacturing defect. Dealers will replace the suspect airbag modules. The safety and satisfaction of our customers are our highest priorities, and we’re taking this action out of an abundance of caution.”
The problem: 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 and 2018-2019 Sierra 2500HD/3500HD trucks that are affected by this issue may contain a manufacturing defect that may result in inflator end cap separation or inflator sidewall split in the roof rail airbag inflators, which are located on the roof rails above the headliner.
The hazards: if the end cap separates from the airbag inflator or a sidewall rupture occurs, the compressed gas will escape from the inflator, and the end cap or other components can be propelled into the vehicle, potentially causing an occupant injury if the vehicle is occupied.
The fix: certified GM service technicians are instructed to replace suspect left and right side roof rail airbag modules.
Affected components: roof rail airbag inflators.
Affected vehicles:
- 2018 GMC Sierra 1500
- 2018–2019 GMC Sierra 2500HD/3500HD

Number of affected vehicles: a total of 2,061 GM trucks in the U.S. are affected by this safety recall, including 384 Sierra 1500 units and 236 Sierra HD units.

I’m beginning to think that GM is close to surpassing Ford with the recall count. Not good. At all.
You know what Roseanne Roseannadanna use to say?
”It just goes to show you. It’s always something. If it’s not one thing it’s another”
