GM To Reimburse Some 2025 Chevy Equinox Buyers For Missing Garage Door Opener

The all-new 2025 Chevy Equinox has been in production since June, but there’s a feature that’s been under constraint since it started rolling off the assembly line. The Universal Home Remote (RPO code UG1) feature hasn’t been functional on any 2025 Equinox units due to a software issue, and some of these were ordered with the dealer-installed garage door opener (5LE) option instead.

However, the LPO-level option was under constraint, but some customers were charged for it even though their Equinox was delivered without a garage door opener. GM is remedying the problem by reimbursing affected customers with a $250 check via the Chevy dealer network. The reimbursement program is in effect through October 31st, 2026.

The Universal Home Remote is normally optional on the LT trim level when optioned with the Convenience Package II (ZQ3). It’s supposed to come standard on all Activ and RS variants. Equinox units with a non-functional, factory-installed garage door opener are identified with RPO code R6I on their window sticker, accompanied by a $50 discount.

Affected vehicles with non-functional garage door openers will receive a future software update to activate them. However, a timeline has not yet been set by GM, and it’s unclear if the update will be performed over the air or at the dealership.

Other than the hangup with the Universal Home Remote, we were impressed with the interior of the all-new, fourth-generation 2025 Chevy Equinox when we drove it earlier this year. Watch our video above for a hands-on, deep-dive tour. We leave no detail untouched as we pore over the cabin, including materials, technology, design, seats, cargo area, and everything in between.

Under the hood, the 2025 Chevy Equinox is powered by the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine. The four-cylinder is linked to a continuously variable transmission (CVT) for front-wheel drive units and the GM eight-speed automatic transmission for all-wheel drive variants. The boosted four-cylinder is rated at 175 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque in FWD variants or 203 pound-feet of torque in AWD units.

Under the skin, the new Equinox rides on an updated variant of the GM D2 platform, while production takes place at the GM San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico.

  2. I ordered my RS with the $250 dealer installed opener. It’s on the sticker, but I didn’t get it. And the touch screen based universal opener isn’t there either (sticker shows the $50 credit). So now I’m clipping my ancient remote to the sun visor like a cave man. Sigh…
