The EV Starter Kit provides both products and services for new commercial EV customers to smooth and streamline the adoption of EV technology. It includes assistance in planning, installation of chargers at business sites and/or employee housing, maintenance of the vehicles, and training of employees in electric vehicle use. The service will also ferret out all available EV incentives for the customer to provide maximum savings.

Turning to the nuts and bolts of the program, the EV Starter Kit (RPO code R6Q) is available on GM EVs sold through the GM Envolve fleet division. The option requires a fleet or government order, along with an OnStar Insights plan with a duration of 12 months, 24 months, 36 months, 48 months or 60 months.

OnStar Insights, which is a prerequisite for the GM Envolve EV Starter Kit, is a suite of tools and information services for fleet managers and the drivers who actually carry out EV fleet operations. By providing robust data, monitoring and analysis, the Insights program aids in running an array of commercial EVs as efficiently, cost-effectively, and productively as possible.

The Insight program collects and provides information on the location and movements of vehicles in the fleet in real-time. It also assesses driver performance and provides other data giving a detailed picture of how the EV fleet is functioning at the same time that it is actually in action. A connected vehicle services plan is required, while the price of the OnStar Insights service is already included in fleet vehicle prices.
