Corvette Racing Takes Fourth At 2024 Indy Eight Hours

Tommy Milner, Alexander Sims, and Alex Udell split the No. 63 Corvette Racing Z06 GT3.R during the Indianapolis Eight Hours on October 5th, 2024. While their race car was fast, it wasn’t fast enough to track down the leaders as the clock ran down on the endurance race thanks to damage sustained on Pit Road, but they still managed to pull off a fourth-place result.

The No. 63 Z06 GT3.R was in a must-win situation if it wanted to secure the 2024 Pro Drivers and Teams title, but ultimately, the team fell short of that goal. Udell guided the race car to the lead until it was overtaken by faster cars in its class. When Sims took the wheel, he gained a 26-second lead before finally swapping the controls to Milner, but he wasn’t able to hold off the hard-charging Porsche in the closing laps.

In fact, the No. 63 Corvette Racing machine made contact with that Porsche on Pit Road. The ensuing damage was the death blow to the Vette’s shot at winning as it battled a wounded front end that hurt its aerodynamics. The Porsche team was not penalized for the contact, though it was arguably at fault for the incident.

“We can’t let one weekend cloud the season we’ve had with DXDT Racing and Corvette. It’s a great team, a real pleasure to drive with Alec and work with everyone at DXDT Racing with some help from Corvette Racing,” Milner said after the race. “Today stings a little bit, but that will go away quickly when we look back on the year and all we achieve. I’m very, very proud of how good this team is, how good this car was and how impressed I was with Alec all year long. It was excellent on all sides. Today was a great example of that.”

Udell shared his sentiment, saying, “From the start in May, it wasn’t supposed to be possible for us to contend for the championship. That speaks to the platform of the Corvette Z06 GT3.R, DXDT Racing, Corvette Racing and everyone coming together to put such a competitive program together.”

Milner and Udell are credited with a second-place finish in the GT World Challenge America Pro class.

In the Pro-Am division, the No. 64 Corvette Z06 GT3.R shared by Bryan Sellers, Patrick Liddy, and Blake McDonald suffered an abysmal race. Contact with a competitor caused critical damage to the suspension, requiring hefty repairs that left the trio multiple laps down. They finished sixth in the Pro-Am class.
