Chevy S10 High Country Makes Us Wonder What Could Have Been

For those readers who may be unaware, the Chevy S10 pickup serves as GM’s midsize offering in a dozen different countries across Latin America and the Caribbean. The current third-gen Chevy S10 launched for 2012 and was updated for 2025. While closely related to the Chevy Colorado midsize pickup sold in North America (but by no means a “twin”), the range-topper of the Chevy S10 lineup is the High Country, making us wonder what could have been had GM offered a High Country trim for the North American-spec Chevy Colorado as well.

The current Chevy S10 trim level lineup includes WT, Z71, LTZ and High Country, while by comparison, the Chevy Colorado offered in the U.S. market is available in WT, Trail Boss, Z71, and ZR2 trim levels, with no High Country in sight. In a GM Authority exclusive, we even asked the Director of Chevrolet Truck Marketing, Mike MacPhee, if the Bow Tie brand had any plans to offer a High Country or LTZ trim for the U.S. Colorado, and for now at least, the prospect seems highly unlikely.

Nevertheless, GM Authority went ahead and rendered what a potential Chevy Colorado High Country would look like, simply to satisfy our curiosity. Now, with the launch of the 2025 Chevy S10 High Country in Latin America, we can’t help but wonder what could have been if GM did offer the third-generation Chevy Colorado in a High Country configuration.

Naturally, the Chevy S10 High Country is equipped with a bold front fascia design complete with a chrome finish, including a prominent upper grille bar  and chrome elements lower in the fascia. Notably, the design does not incorporate any of the bronze trim bits that are seen in Chevy’s U.S.-spec High Country models.

Additional chrome finish was applied to the mirror caps and door handles, while a thin chrome trim line is seen underlining the side windows.

Moving inside, we find a horizontal infotainment layout on the dash, as well as digital gauges behind the steering wheel. Soft-touch surfaces for the center console is matched with premium upholstery for the seats. Under the hood, the 2025 Chevy S10 debuts a new generation of the 2.8L I4 turbodiesel Duramax engine.

Do you wish Chevy sold a High Country variant of the third-gen Colorado here in the U.S.? Let us know your thoughts by posting in the comments!

  2. Would not spring for a High Country, but that color green is fantastic. Would love that color availability in the USA on our version of the truck.

  3. Toyota sells their Hilux there too (overrated) which is actually the truck this competes with. Reliability of newer Hiluxes depends on the engine.

  4. A High Country or LTZ version is definitely needed. Ford offers the Ranger in a Lariat trim and Toyota offers the Taco in Limited and Limited i-Force Max. Blacked out offroad versions are not top trim levels or at all luxury oriented even though they have massive sticker prices for the off road tires and suspension components
