Chevy Equinox Taken Out By Arkansas State Police With PIT Maneuver At 130 MPH: Video

A new viral video captures the moment that Arkansas Police execute a PIT maneuver on a Chevy Equinox during a high-speed chase, resulting in the pursuing law enforcement officer to roll the vehicle.

According to the video description, the pursuit occurred on Thursday, October 3rd, 2024 in Craighead County. The chase began after the suspect was clocked speeding at 90 miles per hour in a 60-mph zone on Highway 18 near Leachville.

A Chevy Equinox crossover flees police during a high-speed pursuit.

After clocking the Chevy Equinox at 90 mph, one law enforcement officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, at which time the suspect failed to yield, accelerating to speeds exceeding 120 mph. The Chevy Equinox was reportedly seen maneuvering through the center turn lane and even through opposing traffic in an attempt to evade police.

Despite the trooper’s best efforts, the suspect’s high speed made him difficult to track, and the Chevy Equinox temporarily disappeared after navigating a long curve near Lake City. However, thanks to a coordinated effort by Arkansas State Police, another trooper managed to locate the Equinox traveling at a high rate of speed near Jonesboro. This second trooper caught up with the Chevy and performed a successful PIT maneuver at 130 mph, causing both vehicles to exit the roadway.

In the video, we see the police vehicle collide with the rear of the Chevy Equinox before exiting the roadway sideways and digging into the dirt and rolling over several times. The suspect later attempted to flee on foot, but was eventually apprehended by officers. The suspect and the trooper that rolled their pursuit vehicle were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

The suspect was later labeled a “danger to the public” by a judge in Arkansas, and was ordered to remain behind bars on a $75,000 cash bond.

  1. It’s all over the Net about Arkansas troopers being overly aggressive. A state to avoid.

    1. I’ve driven all over Arkansas for the last 50 years, in Corvettes and hot rods, even on Harleys and never had an issue with a single one of those troopers. Howvever, as the old saying goes, “play stupid games, win stupid prizes”.

Not just Arkansas, but Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama troopers will jack you up if you get stupid with them also…probably Tennessee too, just never witnessed it there.

    1. There’s plenty of mopars that can be caught by ASP … and unless it’s supercharged, mopar has a problem catching GM of same “category” … but I would certainly HOPE a state trooper could catch a Chevy Equinox! 😂

  4. Ths Chevy Equinox is very strong. I have a 2009 model and I feel more safe driving it than in any of those cheap imports!

  5. Impressive that an Equinox can do 130mph.

  6. Obviously, this “trooper” never took the FLETC driving course. If he had, this never would have happened.

  7. What happened to the 98mph speed limiters on normal cars? Plus not going into OD at WOT on normal cars, too?

Amazing that both drivers survived at those speeds!

  9. I’m sorry, I am still having trouble with that title: An Equinox going 130? Really?

As an ex police officer, it amazes me that any departments will allow a PIT at anything over 40 MPH. They have the plate and since they were side by side for a few seconds, the trooper should have gotten a look at the perp. No need to put so many others in danger just to catch that driver now. Do some police work and use the information from the license plates to follow up later and ID the driver from there.

    1. And if the car is stolen? I agree with the no pit over 40 mph rule, and think all troopers need to get the technology already available to shoot at the fleeing vehicle and track it safely after stopping the high-speed pursuit, yet maintain an active lights/sirens off pursuit of the vehicle safely with the electronic tracking device. Since this was a GM vehicle, cops should be able to notify OnStar and have the vehicle slowed down safely, whether it has an active subscription or not.

  10. Glad he was caught but WHY would they do a PIT maneuver at 130??

  11. Remember a 2020 Equinox can be bought with a 2.0 turbo. So yea, it could easily do 130.

    1. Joe G: There’s a ton of vehicles that can go that fast. It’s quite another thing to actually go that fast in them. Few vehicles on the road today would give me, someone who was trained on pursuit driving, confidence to go that fast. There isn’t an SUV/CUV sold today that I would want to drive at that speed. Aerodynamics plays way to heavily with these boxes at anything over 90 MPH.

  12. I had a 2019 Equinox diesel that would go 123, so I have no doubt that a 2.0 Equinox would go 130, with no tuning required. 2.0 zero to 60 is 6.3 seconds, with a quarter mile time of 14.8 seconds, which is one of the fastest times for a vehicle that size. Top speed is supposedly 140 mph.

  13. Why didn’t the cops just have OnStar shut it down?
