C5 Corvette Crashes Into Burger King In Virginia

While it’s unclear if an excessive hankering for the advertised frozen drinks distracted its driver or if some more serious cause was involved, what isn’t in doubt is that a beautifully maintained Chevy Corvette C5 crashed into a Burger King in Suffolk, Virginia in mid-October.

Apparently finished in the ever-popular Torch Red (color code GKL) exterior paint color, the Corvette C5 appears to have been maintained in gleaming, pristine condition by its owner – at least until it took a detour smack into the wall of the local burger joint.

Fortunately, nobody was injured in the incident, which appears to have been at fairly low speed. The images provided by the City of Suffolk Department of Fire and Rescue, reproduced here, show what seem to be only a few paint chips off what can be seen of the Chevy Corvette’s front end.

However, the rear hatch seems to have suffered from the impact, as it uses a rear hinge. The door gap could indicate the door has shifted or simply that the door wasn’t fully shut. Other minor bending might lurk somewhere under the glossy paint.

The Burger King took the worst of the impact, at least visually. The lightweight cinderblocks of the outer shell are pushed inward, and the wallboard of the interior spalled off the frame, hitting a table inside and bending it askew on its single supporting post. The absence of food, napkins, or other items on either visible table or the floor nearby shows they were probably unoccupied at the moment of the accident.

The exact causes of the crash aren’t readily apparent from the pictures. The collision between Vette and restaurant clearly occurred in broad daylight on a sunny day, with dry pavement, perfect visibility, and an early enough hour to lessen – if not eliminate – the chance of serious alcoholic involvement.

Additionally, while high speed is often involved in such accidents, the damage level to both the car and the building seem to suggest a fairly low-speed impact. The flimsy wall also probably wouldn’t have stopped a speeding Vette from punching through bodily into the interior, at least for part of its length.

Since there seems to be a parking space right in front of the place where the Corvette struck, perhaps the driver was simply distracted and stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake while pulling into the spot.

Regardless, we hope that all our readers will drive safely and observe the posted speed limits, as well as keeping focus and avoiding distractions while driving – even if there’s a tempting discount on the local large fries.

  1. I glad that the driver had nothing to do with the crash.
These rouge cars need to band from the road ways
How many more out of control cars are loose on the roads
    ban them all

  2. C’mon guys…this quote below is just lazy work. The C5 is front engine….”A faster collision would almost certainly have at least partly crumpled the Corvette’s front end which, in a mid-engine car, is relatively unsupported trunk space.”

  4. People should drive vehicles comparable to their driving ability. This guy should have had a 30 year old Renault.

  5. It’s rather obvious, the car parked properly, and the building slid into it.
