Outside the Envista (see running Buick Envista sales), which shares its VSS-F platform with the Chevy Trax, Buick also fields another model in this space – the Buick Encore GX (see running Buick Encore GX sales). Sharing its platform with the Chevy Trailblazer, the Encore GX saw sales slip 27 percent to 14,675 units, placing 13th in the segment. Meanwhile, the Buick Encore (see running Buick Encore sales) – which has been discontinued and indirectly replaced by the Envista – finished last in the segment with its first quarter without deliveries.

That result puts The General solidly in first place in the segment, accounting for nearly third of all segment sales.

Removing the Soul from the Hyundai-Kia total nets 46,862 cumulative deliveries for a 13 percent segment share, bumping the conglomerate to fourth place overall behind Subaru.

Out of the 10 manufacturers represented here, three field multiple models in this space of 21 entries, though two of those models have been discontinued and are therefore destined to fall off this list. When combining sales volumes of those compared to automakers with a single entry, each ranks in the following order:
- GM – 31 percent share (four models)
- Hyundai Motor Group
- 16 percent segment share, five models (including Kia Soul)
- 13 percent share, four models (not including Kia Soul)
- Subaru – 13 percent share, one model
- Stellantis – 10 percent share, four models (the Fiat 500X has been discontinued, but remaining inventory continues to be sold)
- Honda – 10 percent share, one model
- Toyota – six percent share, one model
- Mazda – six percent share, one model
- Nissan – five percent share, one model
- VW – four percent share, one model
- Mitsubishi – one percent share, one model
Typically, automakers fielding multiple entries in this segment enjoy better sales volumes and higher segment shares. However, those with a single model, including Subaru and Honda, are also able to hold their own, actually outpacing automakers offering several models.
Sales of mainstream subcompact crossovers grew 16 percent to 390,206 units during Q3 2024, meaning the Envista far outperformed the segment average.
The GM Authority Take
The Buick Envista, now in its second year on sale, set a sales record with 15K deliveries during Q3 2024 to become the Tri-Shield brand’s best-selling model and accounting for nearly a third of Buick sales during Q3 2024. Clearly, the indirect replacement for the discontinued Encore is a hit.
In much the same way, the Encore’s platform mate, the all-new Chevy Trax, is now GM’s best-selling utility vehicle overall, proving that both are already winners for the automaker. Those two models, combined with the other entries from The General in this space – the Chevy Trailblazer and Buick Encore GX – enables the automaker to retain its leading position – now even more dominant – at the top of its segment.
About Buick Envista
In April 2023, GM debuted the first-ever 2024 Buick Envista for the U.S. market as the Tri-Shield brand’s all-new entry-level crossover. As GM’s first crossover coupe, the Buick Envista incorporates the premium marque’s latest design language initially introduced by the Buick Wildcat EV concept. Highlights include a long wheelbase, a crossover coupe roofline, and a sleek profile. LED checkmark lamps are placed high in the fascia.
This crossover coupe for the masses offers three distinct trim levels: Preferred, Sport Touring (ST), and range-topping Avenir. ST trim levels are equipped with all-black 18-inch wheels as standard, with 19-inch wheels optional. Meanwhile, the Avenir trim level comes with Pearl Nickel 19-inch wheels as standard.
- Take a look at all the 2024 Envista paint colors and interior colors.
There’s also more legroom than in any small Buick crossover model. The cabin incorporates 19 diagonal inches of combined LCD screens, including an 11-inch diagonal infotainment screen and an eight-inch digital gauge cluster. The trade-off is the lack of a premium sound system. Avenir and ST logos are embroidered on the headrests for each respective trim level. A flat-bottom steering wheel is standard across the range.
Notably, the Envista gets two different climate control panels, depending on trim level.
The all-new 2024 Envista is motivated by the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine, which produces 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. Output is routed through the GM six-speed automatic transmission, driving the front wheels exclusively.
The Buick Driver Confidence Package is included as standard, adding Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and IntelliBeam automatic high beams.
GM claims that the Buick Envista offers the driving dynamics of a sedan, which we experienced first-hand in the video below.
The 2025 Buick Envista adds two new standard features previously offered as optional, namely rear park assist and the remote vehicle starter system. It also gets a new paint color called Aquamarine Blue Metallic to indirectly replace Sunrise Red Metallic and the E85-compatible turbocharged 1.2L I3 LBP engine, making it a flex-fuel capable vehicle.

Cheap sells. Of course you have to deal with all those recalls and warranty claims. If you can deal with the headache of fixing a brand new car. The dealer will become your “best friend.”
