All-New 2025 Chevy Optra Sedan Officially Unveiled In Egypt

As part of its latest growth plan in North African countries, General Motors has just officially unveiled the all-new 2025 Chevy Optra sedan in Egypt.

The automaker’s African subsidiary unveiled the all-new 2025 Chevy Optra during a special event at the GM October City plant in Egypt, announcing that the new version of the Bow Tie brand’s popular sedan is the next model it will manufacture locally starting next year. As such, the new 2025 Optra will fill the void left by the previous model to give continuity to the nameplate, which has deep roots in the African country.

“Our successful collaboration with the Egyptian Government under the Automotive Industry Development Program (AIDP) has resulted in us locally producing the all-new 2025 Chevrolet Optra passenger car with a high level of locally produced components,” said Sharon Nishi, Chair and Managing Director of General Motors Egypt and North Africa. “This mainstream sedan is the first vehicle to be registered by any manufacturer under the AIDP. The all-new Chevrolet Optra will be available at Chevrolet showrooms by early 2025,” she added.

Previous Chevy Optra based on the Baojun 630

Notably, the all-new 2025 Chevy Optra sedan just introduced in Egypt is the exact same vehicle that was first introduced in Mexico as the new Chevy Aveo and is also marketed in some South American countries as the new Chevy Sail. This subcompact-sized car will replace the outgoing Baojun 630-based Chevy Optra, which was produced until 2023 at the October City plant for the domestic market and other countries in the region.

As such, the all-new 2025 Chevy Optra becomes the third different vehicle to use the Optra nameplate and the second such model to be produced in Egypt. Like the previous model, the 2025 Optra’s major components and powertrain will be manufactured by the American giant’s SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) joint venture in China, which will ship them to GM Egypt’s complex in CKD format for assembly with locally sourced parts.

The all-new 2025 Chevy Optra sedan has just officially debuted in Egypt and will go into production at GM’s local factory early next year, when it is scheduled to go on sale at GM dealerships in that country. Additionally, the new 2025 Optra is also expected to be introduced in other North African countries during the 2025 calendar year. Details on the final trim levels and configuration for those markets will be announced soon.

  1. So you’re saying GM can still build sedans for people who want them, just not for Americans . . . that’s curious.

  2. So it’s using the original eco tech 3-4cylinder engines, as Saic uses the 1.8/2.0/2.4 that we used to have in the cavalier/cobalt/aveo. Very obsolete engine. Is there embargos against the new ecotec 3 engines going overseas?

Part of me wonders if this could be carbon copied over here if the economy goes really really south.
