AEV Introduces Rear Bumper For 2019+ Chevy Silverado And GMC Sierra

The off-road specialists at AEV (American Expedition Vehicles) have taken the steel rear bumper from the Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2 Bison and the GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X AEV Edition and made it available for sale. It’s compatible with any current-generation Silverado 1500 or Sierra 1500 from the 2019 model year or newer.

The current-generation, T1-based Silverado and Sierra first came out for the 2019 model year, but their most extreme off-road versions weren’t available until 2023. Owners of the earlier T1 trucks who may have gone with a Silverado ZR2 Bison or a Sierra AT4X AEV Edition had they been available can now get a little bit of the style and capability from those factory off-roaders without having to buy a whole new truck.

This Canadian-made rear bumper, which costs $3,000, is made using 3mm stamped steel and weighs only 120 pounds. The base material is galvanized, and it’s e-coated and powder-coated in textured black. AEV says it passes all GM corrosion requirements.

This AEV bumper has integrated ductile tow hooks designed for easy rigging of ¾-inch anchor shackles. It also has provisions for two 3-inch LED reverse lights with a mounting kit sold separately. It provides a departure angle of 23.4 degrees, and its steel construction is designed to take a beating.

AEV claims simple installation since it’s shipped pre-assembled. The only required tools are a half-inch drill bit and “common hand tools.” AEV rates the difficulty level as “moderate” and estimates that the installation takes about two hours.

Notably, this bumper isn’t compatible with trucks equipped with a “thru exhaust” system. That means it likely won’t work on a Chevy Silverado High Country, Sierra Denali, or Sierra Denali Ultimate with the factory exhaust system since their exhaust tips are integrated into the rear bumper. According to AEV, this bumper requires some form of downturn exhaust setup.

In addition to the rear bumper and corresponding auxiliary lights, AEV offers skid plates for 2019+ Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra models for GM truck owners looking to enhance their trucks’ off-road capability with OEM quality.
