380,000 GM Vehicles To Be Equipped With Super Cruise In 2024

GM Senior Vice President of Software and Services Engineering Dave Richardson shared some interesting statistics and information about the Super Cruise hands-free driving system during the recent GM Investor Day presentation. He announced that 380,000 GM vehicles will be equipped with Super Cruise by the end of 2024, and he expects that number to double in 2025 as the technology becomes more widely available.

Richardson also noted that customers have driven more than 280,000,000 miles with Super Cruise engaged since the technology was first made available in 2017. The first car available with Super Cruise as an option was the 2018 Cadillac CT6, the very first production car available to the public with a true hands-free driving system.

Super Cruise was exclusive to the CT6 for a few years, but became available on the CT4, CT5, and Escalade starting with the 2021 model year. The 2022 model year saw the technology expand beyond the Cadillac brand, becoming available on the Chevy Bolt EUV, Chevy Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, and GMC Hummer EV. Buick finally joined the club when the all-new 2025 Enclave came out with optional Super Cruise.

Now that all four North American GM retail brands have at least one model available with Super Cruise, including full-size SUVs like the Chevy Tahoe/Suburban and GMC Yukon and midsize crossovers like the Chevy Traverse and GMC Acadia, it seems realistic that the number of vehicles on the road with the hands-free tech could double in 2025.

Another thing that makes this goal possible is that Super Cruise is standard on two Cadillac models for the 2025 model year: Escalade and CT5. We’re also seeing the feature expand to more affordable models like the Chevy Equinox EV, which helps to lower the barrier of entry for the hands-free tech.

  1. I was hoping for Dynamic Cruise or any form of forward sensing cruise that slowed when approaching a slower vehicle, like my 2017 car and my 2021 motorcycle. it is nice that GM has a hands free self steering, like my other not a GM new car has, but GM is really late to the game as always . GM does a good job for sure, but i end up buying a competitors product during the long long wait, and by the tome GM releases something, they are already out of date.

    1. There’s no way you drive a torch red 2021 C8. Do you know how I can tell? Because that car has adaptive cruise control just like you’re wishing you had, idiot.

    2. It seems you don’t know what your talking about. Forward slowing is known as adaptive cruise control, which has been a feature in GM vehicles for years prior to the introduction of Super Cruise. We own two GM vehicles equipped with Super Cruise; they not only steer and decelerate when approaching a vehicle ahead, but they also automatically change lanes and pass slower vehicles on interstates if the path is clear. Additionally, my truck is capable of doing this even while towing.

  2. Super Cruise? My only response is… WHY?

    1. Because it’s awesome!

  3. Somebody other than you think they know what’s best for you. Money is of no concern if someone thinks you should have it. YET today we do not have a heated front windshield to eliminate the wipers from loading up with ice. Just another safety issue that goes unfixed.

    1. Move south and avoid thosr freezing wipers forever.

    2. Safety issue? How does the other 99.98% of vehicles on the road get by without heated front windshields?

  5. Would buy super cruise in a Tahoe if you did not have to order rear entertainment system. What a rip off

  6. Super Cruise is highly beneficial for eating while driving, but it still requires you to keep an eye on the road. If you look away for too long, the system will alert you and, if ignored, it will disengage and slow the vehicle down. Something Tesla does NOT do.

  7. What safety features are in place should a blow out happens ?

    1. If your tire blows out, you’ll certainly notice and react accordingly. Super Cruise is engineered to maintain your lane by detecting road markings and monitoring for obstacles ahead. In such a scenario, I would expect it to either keep the vehicle in its lane or alert the driver and disengage, similar to how it behaves if it cannot detect the lane markings due to camera glare from the sun or obscured by snow. If the system cannot recognize the lines, it will not activate. You can still manually steer, accelerate, and brake with Super Cruise engaged, pressing the brake pedal will deactivate it, just as with conventional cruise control.

  8. Too bad it’s not left as an option , they now doubled the people who will not buy their cars because they can not afford the extra $10,000.00 dollars it cost added to the price of the car , plus the subscription cost monthly to use it.

  9. Good explanation regarding the super cruise. A real life situation would be a person buys a 30’ travel trailer, dry weight of approximately 7,000 lbs , and approximately 750 lbs hitch weight. Camping gear, water, etc etc extra weight. A person driving hands off the steering wheel probably has cell phone in hand , eating , etc and incurs a tire blow out ,especially a rear tire is in a situation that requires skilled driving ..techniques. First human reaction is to depress the brake pedal even if your hands are on the steering wheel , If that happens it could be fatal.
