2025 GMC Hummer EV Sky Convertible Top Available Again

One of the many unique features of the GMC Hummer EV when it was first announced was the Sky Convertible Top. It was a soft top for the front half of the cabin, in lieu of a hard top or the Infinity Roof with removable Sky Panels. However, the availability of the Sky Convertible Top option ended before it even began, and it doesn’t appear that any production models ever had this feature.

Now, however, GM Authority has learned that the Sky Convertible Top (RPO SBD) is back on the menu for the 2025 model year. It’s available on both the SUV and Pickup variants of the Hummer EV. Pricing is forthcoming, but it was originally listed as a $1,695 option in 2023 before it was dropped from the options list.

When optioned, the Sky Convertible Top has a convertible soft top in the front and Sky Panels in the back. It allows the driver and front passenger to open and close part of the roof without removing any panels, similar to the Sky One-Touch power top option for the Jeep Wrangler.

If we consider the GMC Hummer EV equipped with this feature a convertible, then it’s the first convertible from the GMC brand since the K5-based GMC Jimmy with a removable convertible top.

Other changes for the 2025 model year include the discontinuation of the 2 trim level and the Omega Edition, the subtraction of four paint options, the addition of two new ones, and a new Dark Essentials Package (RPO PDB). Pricing starts at $98,845 for both the Pickup and SUV, and the SUV configurator and Pickup configurator are both live.

For motivation, the Hummer EV 2X trim equips a pair of GM drive motors, while the 3X trim is powered by three motors. Despite this difference, both trims of the SUV send power to their motors from the same 20-module battery pack utilizing GM battery technology. The Hummer EV Pickup in the 3X trim uses a 24-module battery, pushing its horsepower rating to 1,000.

For the 2025 model year, the GMC Hummer EV will continue to use the GM BT1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan.
