While we’ll always have a ton of respect for the gleaming beauties that frequent the show ’n shine circuit, cars are ultimately meant to be driven. This is doubly so for performance models like the Chevy Corvette, especially when given a chance to show their true colors on some engaging strip of tarmac. Now, we’re watching as a legion of Corvette owners descend on the Tail of the Dragon in the following video.
For those readers, who may be unaware, the Tail of the Dragon, also known as Deals Gap, is a stretch of U.S. Route 129 bordering Tennessee and North Carolina that’s become something of a hot spot for car enthusiasts and motorcycle riders from around the world. Stretching 11 miles and stringing together 318 corners, The Dragon provides an engaging and technical driving experience through the Great Smoky Mountains, and includes some fantastic views along the way. What’s more, there are no intersecting roads or driveways, making it a prime spot for an uninterrupted, spirited drive.
Enter Vettes Versus the Dragon, a new Corvette driving event centered around the world-famous stretch of two-lane. Vettes Versus the Dragon hosted its inaugural event earlier this month, attracting more than 80 Corvettes from around the U.S. and Canada. Now, the event is recapped in a new video, showing off some of the cars in attendance as they slither through The Dragon.
Clocking in at four minutes, 47 seconds, the video includes some lovely aerial drone footage, providing an eyeful of the gorgeous scenery surrounding the world-famous driving road. Naturally, there are plenty of examples of America’s sports car as well, many of which appear to be later-model Vettes between the C5 and C8 generations. The whole thing is set to mellow music, with resolution up to 4K at 60 fps, making for a fun, entertaining watch.
