Canadian labor union Unifor has announced that it has reached a tentative agreement with GM covering 1,300 workers at the General Motors CAMI Assembly and Battery Assembly facilities in Ingersoll, Ontario. The General Motors CAMI facility is responsible for production of the Chevy BrightDrop EV 600 and EV 400. Agreement details will be provided to union members during a ratification meeting on Sunday, September 22nd, 2024. Unifor is the largest private section union in Canada, representing some 320,000 workers across a range of industries.
“We had very clear goals heading into bargaining set by our members and I believe that we have reached a tentative agreement that reflects those goals,” said Unifor Local 88 Plant Chair Mike Van Boekel. “I want to thank our members for their support and solidarity throughout bargaining and our entire negotiating team for working around the clock to secure a contract that we can be proud of.”
Unifor National President Lana Payne also congratulated the bargaining committee.
“Every member of our team was instrumental in fighting for and winning this tentative agreement on behalf of all Unifor Local 88 members at CAMI,” Payne said.
In addition to over 1,100 union members at the CAMI Assembly plant, Unifor also represents roughly 200 workers at the General Motors Battery Assembly facility that produces GM Ultium battery modules.
Back in August, union members overwhelmingly approved a strike mandate ahead of contract negations with General Motors, with 97 percent of of union members voting in favor. Contract negations began on September 9th, 2024. Early reports indicated that Unifor sought higher wages, as well as a commitment from GM to bring more of the plant’s workforce back to full-time status.
The latest round of negotiations followed broader master agreements between GM and Unifor hashed out last year, at which time Unifor also secured master agreements with Ford and Stellantis.
Notably, General Motors recently announced that it was moving its all-electric BrightDrop commercial vans under the Chevrolet umbrella, framing the move as an expansion to the Chevy EV portfolio. BrightDrop was previously a wholly owned GM subsidiary, but was later fully integrated with GM as part of the GM Envolve commercial sales division.

Likely some absurd 10% wage increases, healthy profit sharing bonus, and like that the factory line worker becomes solidly upper-middle class, especially in a fairly low cost of living area where CAMI is.
No what you’re talking about. Unifor doesn’t have profit sharing and 10% isn’t a absurd increase considering what inflation has been running at
Know the difference between “no” and “know”. That mistake isn’t worthy of your upcoming 10% wage increase.
Also, inflation is 2%
SINCE THE WAGES AND BENEFITS ARE ABOUT 500 PERCENT HIGHER IN CANADA OR THE USA UNION PLANTS THAT MAKE CARS OR TRUCKS, THAN MEXICO, IT’S NO WONDER THE THE FULL SIZE DODGE RAM PICKUP TRUCKS ARE ALL MADE IN MEXICO NOW AND MOST OF THEM HAVE BEEN MADE IN MEXICO FOR YEARS.
The 10 – 2025 Ram 1500s on our lot all have VINs starting with a 1, so USA made.
Not sure what you’re talking about.
People who leave a response should now what their talking about. Ram trucks are built in the USA. And that has nothing to do with the story written about Cami
