U-Haul Chevy Silverado Carries Unstrapped Mattress With Predictable Result: Video

Moving sucks. The stress of transporting all your possessions from one place to the next can be quite taxing on the body and mind, not to mention the heavy financial burden. No surprise then that some folks opt to do it themselves, grabbing a U-Haul and chucking everything they can into the bed. Thing is, you really need to strap everything down before hitting the road, as evidenced by the following video featuring a U-Haul Chevy Silverado.

A Chevy Silverado with a mattress in the bed.

Recently posted online and clocking in at less than 30 seconds, the video was captured by the dash camera of another motorist in London, Ontario, Canada. According to the video overlay, the incident occurred on September 1st, 2024, around 5:34 p.m. local time.

In the video, we see a white Chevy Silverado 1500 U-Haul truck making a left-hand turn. The truck is loaded up with furniture, while a large mattress is plopped on top of the tall stack of things. Critically, nothing is strapped down.

As the truck turns, we see the mattress flopping around on top of all the items. The car with the dash cam follows behind, then wisely moves to the other lane.

Seconds later, we see the front of the mattress start to lift up. The force of the air rushing around the stack of stuff starts to force the front of the mattress to rise, and before we know it, a gust of wind catches the mattress and sends it tumbling behind the Chevy Silverado, sliding across the road.

The vide ends abruptly afterwards. It’s unclear if the Silverado driver even noticed that the mattress was gone.

“If someone would have told them to reach out the window and hold onto the mattress none of this would have happed,” quips one commenter.

“It’s such a heavy mattress, it won’t go anywhere! – Them probably,” writes another.

“At least they saved $43 and that’s what really mattress,” writes one more.

    1. No shortage of them out there. Street and highways are littered with junk that’s has blown or fallen out of trucks and trailers. People do not realize how much force the wind even Low speeds like 35mph affects things not tied down.

      1. I see GMC Sierras and Silveradoes doing work here in Qatar on occasion by some owners (the only trucks really that do them… aside from maybe RAM) and I have NEVER seen an object fallen out of the bed.

  2. This is actually a safety hazard. If he was caught by the police (if a cop car was nearby), he would be FINED HEAVILY.

  10. A lot of people don’t understand that a rope or strap is an easy solution to not loose your cargo. There are actually several important things that you can use a rope for.
