Some 2022 And 2023 GMC Hummer EV Units Need Multiple Module Reprogramming

General Motors has issued two Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP) bulletins for select units of the 2022 and 2023 GMC Hummer EV for a series of software updates. Since the GMC Hummer EV SUV wasn’t out until the 2024 model year, these CSPs exclusively apply to GMC Hummer EV Pickup models.

CSP number N242442070 applies to the 2022 model, and CSP number N242436170 applies to the 2023 model. They both read that the GMC Hummer EV “may require software updates that improve the customer experience and optimize future over-the-air updates.” We’ve seen similar wording in recent GM CSPs for the 2024 GMC Hummer EV (both the Pickup and SUV variants) and Cadillac Lyriq.

Although these CSPs appear similar, there’s one difference in the description of the labor needed to remedy the issue. CSP N242442070 has an extra line instructing the service department to “program image processing module,” which adds an extra half-hour to the job. Even still, it should take less than 90 minutes to complete the work for either model year. No new parts are required for the repair, which should help get vehicles into the service bay promptly.

Although these services relate to the infotainment system and not the electric powertrain, GM requires that they be performed at an authorized EV dealer. The repairs are free of charge, and the programs are in effect until October 31st, 2026.

Both Hummer EV variants are motivated by Ultium Drive motor technology mated to Ultium batteries. The SUV equips a 20-module battery pack exclusively, while the Pickup can be fitted with either a 20-module or 24-module battery pack.

This powertrain develops 570 horsepower for the SUV’s 2X trim and 830 horsepower for the 3X and Edition 1 trims. The figures are similar for the Pickup when the 20-module battery is installed, but the use of the 24-module battery increases output to 1,000 horsepower.

Both versions of the EV are underpinned by the wide-body variant of the GM BT1 platform, while production is carried out at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan.

Vehicle Wide Programming is for all the modules in the vehicle not just infotainment system.
