Savagegeese Calls Chevy Camaro SS 1LE The Best Used Sports Car of 2024: Video

Sadly, General Motors has officially discontinued the sixth-generation Camaro, bidding farewell to the sports car following the conclusion of the 2024 model year. Even so, the Chevy Camaro remains a top pick when it comes to performance and excitement. Now, a group of YouTube automotive reviewers are highlighting the Chevy Camaro SS 1LE as the best used sports car of 2024.

In a video review clocking in at more than 17 minutes long, we get an in-depth look at the sixth-generation Chevy Camaro SS with the 1LE package, produced between 2017 and 2024. The hosts discuss the exterior, interior, mechanical aspects, and driving impressions of the car, highlighting its strengths and weaknesses.

In terms of styling, the Camaro SS 1LE has gone through three front fascia designs. Enhancements specific to the 1LE package include a satin black hood, Recaro seats, Alcantara interior touches, and a head-up display.

While the interior space is criticized for its limited visibility and lack of storage, it’s still equipped with essential features like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Mechanically, the car is praised for its sophisticated suspension, performance cooling systems, and the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT1 gasoline engine, rated at 455 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque.

The Camaro’s driving dynamics are highlighted as well, particularly its stability and handling on a race track, though the reviewers call out the car’s weight and say it can quickly overwhelm its brakes (curb weight for the SS Coupe with a manual transmission is set at 3,685 pounds). Of course, that doesn’t stop the hosts from enjoying plenty of tail-out action around the track.

Although GM has confirmed that it is developing a new generation for the Camaro, the sixth-generation is likely the last to feature internal combustion power. That alone makes it a hugely desirable machine, but add in the V8 bark, the impressive handling, and all the fun on offer, and we have to agree – this is definitely a top pick on the used market.

  1. The 6th Gen Camaro is/was an amazing affordable performance machine (as an owner).

Too bad it was RUINED by incompetent management from Mark R and Mary B.

All a 7th Gen needs, is some minor updates. Especially the technology since you can steal a 6th Gen in 5 minutes with a 15 dollar Amazon tablet. No need to invest in an expensive platform, reuse as much as you can.

Make it happen! Even if you have to make EVs to subsidize it. We want affordable performance machines not C8s that are 60k+

    1. C8 starts at $70k now, and EVs to subsidize sports cars? Wtf?

People didn’t not buy them because they were excellent sports cars, they refused to buy them because they can’t see out of them. Oh let me guess, it’s visibility is perfect and way better than a Mustang and so everyone is wrong.

  2. Yes. Sports cars should be lesser regulated like trucks but that’s my opinion.

Visibility is/was NOT the issue with the 6th Gen. Anyone with a brain could tell you that. The issue with sales was, GM didn’t build 6th gen’s at all. People (including me) had orders in and never picked up.

    Ask any dealer.

Additionally, the C8 visibility is just as bad and they sold like hot cakes.

Minor fixes to the interior and a 7th Gen would be perfect.

Also, I’m looking at replacing my 2016 s550 Mustang with a s650 GT/Dark Horse, to sit next to my 6th Gen. Since Ford is keeping the Mustang alive the way it should be.

    1. If you watch the reference SV video til the end, their perspective is the SS1LE is better than the S650.
I may be biased of course so I agree, but Savagegeese sure isn’t.

      Love all the Camaros!

    2. Yeah, people didn’t buy the 6th gen, because GM didn’t build them or had a shortened production year. The 24’s lasted less than 3 months and had the strike thrown in there. Chances of getting a 24 were slim to none and I am very happy with my ’23 RS Coupe. GM never felt the need to advertise, as in, ‘Oh, they’ll buy whether we advertise or not, so let’s put that money somewhere else.’

Visibility is better with my ’11 Convertible RS, but the ’23 has the blind spot alert plus all the other tech and safety features, all of which became my driving force for getting a later model.

  3. a 7th gen on Ultium will be a total disaster. All Ultium EVs are overweight pigs due to the structure of the battery pack. the Equinox EV (a compact crossover) weighs 5000lbs!!!

If GM makes a 7th gen, it better be on Alpha 2, otherwise it is a disgrace to the legacy of the car.

  4. My 2023 ZO6 and 2012 ZL1 really aren’t any worst to see out of than my 1971 Z28.
The SS 1LE is a great track car and a great car to have in your collection because they didn’t make that many, but unless you plan on tracking it all the time, the SS is a better street car.

  5. Total disgrace to the Camaro that Mary and GM killed it off AGAIN. Need to seriously look into the mirror, say we messed up, and bring it back in 2026 as an ICE vehicle. And in 2027 offer a hybrid option
