NASCAR Chevy Driver Kyle Larson Absolutely Dominates At Bristol: Video

Kyle Larson put on a clinic at Bristol Motor Speedway on September 21st, 2024. He almost led the entire race – his No. 5 NASCAR Chevy Camaro ZL1 showed the way for 462 of 500 laps on Saturday night.

Larson muscled past the No. 48 NASCAR Chevy Camaro of Alex Bowman and the No. 19 Toyota TRD Camry of Martin Truex Jr. to take the lead, and once he had it, he hardly glanced back. He swept both stage wins and set a record. The only driver to lead more laps in a single race at Bristol is Cale Yarborough, who led 495 laps during the 1977 running of the event. The win was also Larson’s second at NASCAR’s shortest track.

“Man, that was just great execution all weekend by the team,” Kyle Larson said. “Practiced good. You’ve got to qualify good; we did that. Yeah, just had a great car. Thanks to the whole 5 team. They’re the best in the business. We dominate a lot of races, but we might not close them all out, so it feels really good to close one out here in this HendrickCars.com Chevy. We’ve got [team owner] Rick Hendrick here today, too. He hasn’t been to many races this year.”

He added, “Just a phenomenal car, could kind of manage my stuff and then really pass some cars there at the end.”

Chase Elliott, driver of the No. 9 NASCAR Chevy Camaro, finished second, 7.088 seconds back. Bubba Wallace’s No. 23 Toyota TRD Camry finished third, followed by Denny Hamlin’s No. 11 Camry and Christopher Bell’s No. 20 Mustang in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Kyle Larson’s win grants him an automatic pass into the Round of 12 in the Playoffs. Of the four drivers eliminated, not one belonged to the NASCAR Chevy camp. Truex, Ty Gibbs, Brad Keselowski, and Harrison Burton were all eliminated; Bowman, Larson, Elliott, Daniel Suárez, and William Byron will continue to carry The Bow Tie brand forward in the Playoffs.

  1. hard to watch. Incredible that a short track race can be that boring

  2. Calling these NASCAR required vehicles covered with decals to make look like a street car a Camaro ZL1 is a joke. Little gm killed Camaro again. Call it some SUV/CUE or even an EV & be done with it.
