Here’s Why People Are Putting Toy Sharks On Chevy Windshields

These days, differences in opinion aren’t exactly in short supply. Even so, anyone reading this particular website would likely agree on one thing: we love GM cars. Indeed, it’s good to find common ground, especially on something we’re all passionate about, like our vehicles. It’s this shared enthusiasm that makes the recent trend of Chevy “sharking” particularly interesting.
So, what exactly is Chevy sharking? In short, sharking is a trend that has taken off on social media, where Chevrolet fans place a small toy shark or a foam shark keychain on a Chevrolet vehicle they admire, usually a Camaro. This trend is similar to Jeep “ducking,” wherein Jeep enthusiasts leave a rubber duck on a Jeep as a gesture of goodwill and mutual appreciation for the vehicle.
One social media user recently shared their sharking experience: “Hey people, I was leaving Walmart and I saw this Camaro,” they wrote. “Today was a good day for Camaro sharking! I did eight today, and the last guy was really nice! I gave him a couple of my sharks so he could start sharking. Spread the love.”
Interestingly, the trend seems to be expanding beyond just the Camaro. A recent post on Facebook reveals that someone sharked a third-generation Chevy Traverse, placing an orange foam shark keychain floaty on the windshield.
This leads us to ask: why sharks? Perhaps it’s a nod to the shark fin-shaped C-pillar that’s becoming more common on various Chevrolet models, like the 2025 Equinox. Or maybe it’s simply a fun way to show appreciation for a brand that’s synonymous with American automotive culture.
Regardless of the reason, it’s refreshing to see perfect strangers connecting over their love for the Bow Tie brand. It’s a simple act that fosters a sense of community and shared enthusiasm, and with any luck, we’ll see even more Chevrolet models getting sharked as this trend continues to grow.

Alliteration. I wouldn’t be surprised if they chose shark because shark and Chevy start with the same sound.
That isn’t alliteration.
“Chevy shark” is absolutely alliteration. Both words begin with the same sound.
Ch and SH are 2 different sounds phonetically…it ain’t Chevy Chark !
Chevy is pronounced “shevy” not “chevy” with a typical “ch” sound as in the words- chain, challenge, or chuck. So yes, the CH of chevy and the SH of shark sound the same
I’ve heard it pronounced that way in Mexico before, but anyway Chevrolet and Shark start with the same sound.
Sounds pretty close enough..
Chevrolet is a French name. The French use ch for the sh sound. If anyone should know that, someone name Pierre should know that. Chicago is the same. Same for Bugatti Chiron. WTF dude?
gottem! 🤣
Putting a foam shark keychain on a wiper blade isnt the brightest thing to do unless you like a scratched windshield or even worse having to dislodge it from under the blades every rainstorm ! Just another knick knack for someone to steal and you cant replace it because of the foam shark keychain shortage
What do Cadillacs get?
By that logic, I would guess, Cadillac Cat 🐈
🤷♂️
I recall hearing the term Mako Shark referring to the Corvette model. Pretty cool.
Actually, it was Me that started it. One Christmas Eve a couple years ago. Did a poll in the “lady Camaro gang” group on fb and we all voted. Sharks won. Which is great for me, I’m a shark diver and enthusiast! Gonna wrap my 5th gen to look like a tiger shark
Now this is alliteration. SHarell likes SHarks and Chevys
Probably due to the “shark gills” vents in front fenders on early model GM vehicles
Reminds me of the Jeep ducks. Only now it expanded to any car other than Jeeps. I found one on my Caddy and now he’s my travel buddy.
Yeah. Don’t touch my car. Ever. In fact don’t ever touch anyones car.
You are a dud… no fun.. feel sorry for your partner.. lol
You are a dud… no fun.. feel sorry for your partner… lol
Seriously, my sympathies to your partner in life. Don’t touch my car, how are people suppose to get in without touching it, that’s probably why you’re alone. Lighten up. Life’s too short to be Karen or Kyle all the time. Learn how to accept a compliment. Or you’ll be eating French Cries alone and have no one to enjoy road trips with.
Typically they are rubber sharks and people have been instructed to place them gently on the windshield above the wiper, without touching the vehicle. We are being respectful. No camaro owner would EVER hurt someone else’s baby
A person’s vehicle is like a person’s cell phone, computer, or data pad – a personal thing that need to be respected.
Lighten up, Frances.
You want to work on figuring out alliteration before you worry about who touches your car.
As a Camaro owner, I certainly don’t mind being “Sharked.” I feel it just shows there are other enthusiast’s who appreciate the mod’s I’ve made to an American Muscle Car.
If I touch your car and left, you cannot do anything to me. Cars get touched by many every day. Get a life!
I park out in BFE because I don’t want any door dings. Plus, if I get a flat tire, it’s easier to change when no cars are next to me. If you want a key scratch down the side of your car, park next to me and leave a door ding.
That’s just not very bright at all. Real mature. The person next to you may not be the same person who dinged your car. Another person could have done it, then moved, before someone else parked there completely unassuming. Grow up.
Or the shark fin on the roof???.
Touch my car!!!!!
That’s the point. The rules were made to put them gently above the windshield wiper without touching the car. No camaro owner would EVER hurt another persons baby.
I love the new Chev Equinox, really attractive.
Slow though.
Back in the day people actually loved their cars/trucks/ motorcycles. They spent thousands of dollars and hours of labor taking care of and modifying them. You just don’t touch someone’s vehicle out of respect. Today most people just gas and go. The love affair with cars is all but dead. I’ve been a mechanic to for 45 years,I have witnessed it. And now the government wants to take the heart and soul out of all cars with electric motors. Don’t touch my cars, thank you!!
I’m a millenial and I still have that love for my cars (although the wife makes it difficult because she is completely careless with the cars. Landed up ripping out the lip spoiler trim piece on the 16 Rav4 but the car is still the shiniest cleanest one you’ll see with all her battle scars and I usually get praise by my mechanic for how well its kept). And so much so I am like this that my 22 XT5 is forbidden to be taken to certain places like into NYC or my local madhouse Costco.
That being said, where I live in North NJ people have zero concept of respecting other peoples personal property. People will whack your car with their door, leave shopping carts up against it, brush by it and hit your mirrors, and even scrape it carelessly or back into it and not have the decency to atleast leave an “apology letter” (three times I found a new scuff or deep scratch on my Rav that magically appeared on the car with no sign of a culprit). And the other day, with a loaner Caddy, I told off a guy for bumping my loaner while parking in front of me shamelessly while I was sitting in the car. I let him have it and chewed him out. I’ve grown fed up with it. People these days are animals with zero sense of self or community. So leaving a duck or shark on my car is the least of my worries.
I agree, 85ZingoGTR, with all that you have expressed about people’s blatant DISRESPECT for others’ property. I had a hit-and-run on my Chevy Malibu about 2 years ago, and the car was otherwise in excellent shape. It was over $1,000 worth of damage, and there was NO ONE to blame, as whoever did it-(obviously, while it was parked)-smashed the hell out of the passenger side rear quarter panel and drove off. I happened to notice it one day, just out of the blue. No idea WHEN or WHERE it happened. People are very ABUSIVE of other people’s property these days. Shopping carts, yes, left out to smash into your car in the parking lot. People dragging their clothing or body along the side of your car as they pass. Slamming their vehicle door into the side of your vehicle. However they can ABUSE your property, they find a WAY. YES, I park far from the “mob” as well. Too many a$$-holes out there to trust them around your car.
How about GM prevent all the recalls for their million defective transmissions and every other thing that goes wrong before they pat themselves on the bac?
It’s ok to touch my C8 It’s not that serious just try not to scratch it.
OK, and are these little toys left on the car overnite? here in queens ny or brooklyn , all those sharks would be stolen along with the wheels.
People nowadays must be bored and have nothing else to do with themselves these days!
These fvckers are bout dumber than a box of rocks! People take pictures of my Mustang all the time but I dare mf’er try and put some kind of wildlife toy on it and scratch the paint! If they start that trend with Mustangs the all I can say is GOD help em because if not then the paramedics will need to! 👊🫨
No one on foot will get too close to a Mustang – fear for their lives….
GM (CHEVROLET) had a shark name. The corvette makco shark
I have a old corvette, and it looks like a shark!
Hope I get one on my 6 gen ss -2 Camaro
Might want to go on a certain…hub… and see what “Sharking” has meant for a long time. Lol one of those weird Japanese things where they pants women.
Do what most Jeep owners really do… Buy your own ducks
Hope I get one on my 6 gen SS-2 Camaro Convertible
Lol… Are you guys serious, does no one here know the original meaning of “Sharking”…
I was going to say the same thing. Reading the headline, I couldn’t imagine how the two of them could be related, or why it would be a story on this site (and not one you’d use a private session for).
Shark my Trailblazer SS, I’d love it.
Just don’t shart it!😂
Now ya got me thinking about
Never mind
Does no one remember the shark nose Camaro? I figure this has to come from that.
