GM Releases Fix For Chevy Silverado Slow-Retracting Rear Seat Belts

General Motors has released a Service Update for certain units of the Chevy Silverado 1500 and Chevy Silverado HD due to an issue with slow-retracting rear seat belts.

According to Service Update N242455780, select examples of the 2024 Silverado 1500 and 2024 Silverado HD may have a condition where the rear outboard seat belts are slow to retract into the C-pillar. As such, certified GM technicians are instructed to inspect affected vehicles and fix the issue as necessary. Notably, it should take techs a little less than one hour to perform this fix.

It’s worth noting that GM dealerships will fix the problem whenever a customer brings in their vehicle for this reason.

Side profile of 2024 Chevy Silverado HD.

As a reminder, the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 is available with a wide range of powerplant options, including the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline TurboMax, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, rated at 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, rated at 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine, rated at 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.

Meanwhile, the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD can be equipped with one of two engine choices, including the naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, rated at 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque, or the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax, rated at 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque.

Under the body panels, the Chevy Silverado rides on the multiple versions of the GM T1 platform – which it shares with the GMC Sierra – while production of the 2024 model year got underway in July 2023. The light-duty Silverado is built at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, the GM Oshawa plant in Canada, and the GM Silao plant in Mexico, while the heavy-duty Silverado is manufactured at the GM Flint plant in Michigan and at the Oshawa facility as well.

As a typical Florida Man, Trey is a certified GM nutjob who's obsessed with anything and everything Corvette-related.
