General Motors has issued a stop-sale order effective immediately on certain 2024 GMC Canyon models in new and used inventory. The corresponding GM recall number is N242468880, and GM has notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) of the recall. Although all 2024 GMC Canyon models come standard with the same LED projector headlamps, the recall only applies to certain models.
The stop-sale order has to do with a failure to conform to the “required lamps and reflective devices” regulations of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, which concerns “lamps, reflective devices, and associate equipment.” The headlights may flicker in various conditions, both while driving and while in park. Driving at night with defective headlights creates obvious safety hazards, which is what makes this stop-sale order such an urgent matter.
Luckily, General Motors has a fix. Dealers are to replace a module in the headlamp that includes the right software to correct the problem. Until GMC dealers receive further instructions, they are not to sell, trade, or auction any potentially affected 2024 GMC Canyon units.
Current owners of the 2024 GMC Canyon may receive a recall notice in the near future.
A GM spokesperson provided the following statement to GM Authority: “General Motors is voluntarily recalling certain 2024 GMC Canyons for headlamp flicker that may occur under various conditions and does not conform to federal vehicle standards. Dealers will replace a module in the headlamp that resolves a software defect. The safety and satisfaction of our customers are our highest priorities and we’re working to remedy this matter as quickly as possible.”
About 13,200 units are affected by the recall, roughly 40 percent of which are in dealer inventory or in transit to dealerships, according to GM. Although mechanically related, the Chevy Colorado is not impacted by the recall. The two trucks have different headlights, which is part of what sets them apart aesthetically.
This isn’t the first stop-sale order that GM has placed on the 2024 GMC Canyon. Back in February, GM issued a stop-sale order on 2024 Canyon and Colorado models for “intermittent software quality issues” affecting as many as 15,000 units. Although production of the 2024 model year for these midsize pickups began in January 2024 at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri, they didn’t start shipping in significant numbers until March. Not long thereafter, GM hit the Canyon with a recall for an unsecured fuel tank lock ring.
We were impressed when we drove the 2023 GMC Canyon. With its strong 2.7L I4 L3B High Output turbo engine, good driving manners, impressive capabilities, and ruggedly handsome looks inside and out, we found it to be a major improvement over the outgoing generation.

In other news, my Colorado ZR2 – software update and now my radio stays on after I exit the truck….. 🙄. I should start a pool for whomever picks the date for the next update that fixed the problems that the last update created.
Same issue with my 2024 Canyon.
Didn’t GM lay-off a bunch of engineers lately? 🙄
Same here on my 24, AT4, went online and found a fix, if you push down on the handsfree phone button on the steering wheel for 15 seconds, the computer will reset. But it only lasted for 2 days and right back to doing it again, haven’t got a call back from my service writer yet?
that just reboots the infotainment system. Don’t think it does anything related to the headlight module. If Anything, pulling the Negative battery post for 30 min and leaving door open entire time to drain the system to nothing will do more for the problem than holding down the handsfree button.
Galen, Thanks for the reply. Not sure any of this works long term for the infotainment system, my service writer is on vacation. Fortunately for me, I have a great dealer that I know will take care of the issue, looks like I am lucky in that regard. I will keep doing the 15 second fix until my next service and let them do the permanent fix. I’m not having any issues other than that. Have been very pleased with my truck up to this point.
Welcome to General Mediocrity quality.
Cheapest parts from lowest bidder.
Ford and Stalantis is the same way.
Last GM vehicle I will ever own bought a 2023 Canyon What a nightmare!!!
These trucks are to new, give them 5 years to figure things out. New models are always loaded with issues and software issues because the testing in house is very weak. Why they don’t loan some of these to a everyday normal American to run them thru the ringer for a month or 2 before selling them is beyond me.
My 2022 zr2 has had its share of problems.
Steering rack ,suspension, suspension, suspension, leaf springs ,shocks noises, noises.
Does anyone know how long these issues typically take to solve? I had an appointment to pick one up tomorrow and now that isn’t happening.
I didn’t even get mine off the lot and the recall came through
My 2022 Colorado has been back to the dealership now 3 or 4 times due to battery drain. Currently my truck has been in the shop for 6 business days with them now saying I need to drive it more often to keep it charged!
My John Deere mower starts right up after sitting over winter and first part of spring.
I have reported this problem with the Feds, but no response.
My 2024 likes the signal. To the left after, I’ve turned right by itself. I’m scared to figure out what will happen. Next i’m glad they don’t have Firestone tires on them
I was supposed to pick up my AT4X tomorrow but got the call. I told the dealer I would wait a couple days and if it isn’t ready I would cancel the deal and wait for the 2025.
