The off-road-ready Chevy Colorado ZR2 was unveiled at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show and launched for the 2017 model year, promising impressive capability when the pavement ends. The pickup’s dirty-ready attitude extends to the styling, with several unique touches that make the Colorado ZR2 stand out from its less-capable stablemates. Interestingly, the 2023 and 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 only offer a single interior colorway, which leads us to ask – does the Chevy Colorado ZR2 need another interior color option?
For the moment, the Chevy Colorado ZR2 is only offered in the Jet Black / Artemis interior colorway, with cloth / Evotex included as the standard seat materials, and perforated leather offered as optional. The cloth / Evotex material incorporates a camo-esque pattern down the central seat area, while both configurations incorporate yellow stitching.
While this color combination obviously works for some customers, we’re not totally convinced. Indeed, others aren’t convinced either:
“What’s up with the seats and trim on the new Colorado ZR2?” asks GM Authority reader Chris D. “It’s too much, makes my eyes hurt. Won’t be buying until Chevy offers something else. I would take all black if they offered this.”
Chris may have a point. A simple black (or Jet Black, as GM likes to call it) could provide a nice, unfussy alternative to the Jet Black / Artemis and camo-esque pattern included currently. A black-and-gray combo (perhaps Jet Black / Graystone) could be a nice option as well.
We could also look elsewhere in Chevy’s lineup for inspiration. For example, the Jet Black / Graystone Perforated Leather Bucket seats in the Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2 could be just the ticket for some buyers:

As a reminder, the Chevy Colorado ZR2 is equipped as standard with the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B TurboMax gasoline engine, rated at 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. Under the skin, the Colorado rides on an updated variant of the GMT 31XX platform, while production takes place at the GM Wentzville plant.

Oh my gosh. Almost every vehicle made except a Corvette, Bentley and RR need another interior color option.
I agree completely with Freddy!
The reason i bought the ZR2 and not a z71 is because of the color interior. I could maybe see red pin striping instead of yellow but Chevy is smart with making all ZR2 interior look different than just black. If anything the lesser models need to have better color options. Black with colored pin stripping is still black. ZR2 is a nice gray interior with yellow and goes together very nicely.
You guys are the reason these things cost so much. Zero use for it, buys it because you think it looks cool and prefer the interior color, then all the suburban dads buy it with all the luxuries and the costs get passed down to those that need a base truck for work and struggle to afford it. Buy what you use people, you aren’t cool because of your vehicle, it is laughable when it isn’t even used which is easily spotted on the off-road crowd.
Reader Chris D. has zero use for the truck, if you aren’t buying something because of something petty, you don’t need it. I have heard some sad reasons over the years. Lack of LED taillights is one of the worst.
The ’24 Tacoma TRD Pro red interior is BEAUTIFUL. What about a Tension Blue option?? While we’re at it – how about a Cacti Green exterior for MY25?? That would go well with the current interior offering. ::crosses fingers::
I would prefer an interior color like red or tan ( or sandstone. Whatever shade or name you would want.). I like the grey camo look but not the shade of the yellow stitching.
A russet color for the leather would be nice.
Black is not actually a color if you think about it and I don’t like all the black interiors we are given now.
I had a dealer say black was the number 1 interior color they sell.
Well, yeah, that’s because it’s the ONLY option offered.
All Chevrolet interiors, except Corvette, need More Color options.
remember the 70 s colour and interior material was wild, now you black or black and grey, all companies need some wow factor on the inside ,that is what we see when your driving
I’d really love to see the Z71 red interior in the ZR2. Not a huge fan of only having yellow as an option.
Both the Colorado and the Canyon need an optional color or two. Light brown or tan would be good. I won’t buy a vehicle with a black interior.
Yes, definitely.
GM, make an Colorado LT Trail Boss. You have the parts, just do it.
GMC Canyon interiors are far better …the Denali has jet black with teak dash & ribbon trim (stunning!) and the AT4 has jet black with rusty orange trim (very nice). Looked at the Colorado but interior was a complete turn-off.
Has today’s population gone completely Color blind? What’s with the black or gray choices? How about red, brown, camel or beige? Fortunately Chevy at least offers some decent outside paint colors on the Colorado, unlike its cousin in the GMC line up which offers choices ranging from blah to ugly.
It is bean counters and engineers trying to streamline and save some money.
I have found the past few GM Authority articles on interiors quite hilarious. “Check out the five interior colors on this [fill in the blank vehicle]
Then you read the article to find out it is 4 different black (each with slivers of a color splash) and one grey. Ridiculous.
On that note the interior designers at GM need to realize that certain color options just don’t work. Perfect example are the deep red seats in the CT4. Great color…ruined by a white piping. Why? Zero need for that. Or the bright blue trim in the Blazer. Super tacky and garish. Just give me the 2013 Corvette 60th Anniversary Diamond Blue leather instead.
I’m done…… I will never buy another vehicle with black carpet. never!
Yes Absoulty. It would be nice to match some of the colors of the outside to the inside.
Brown dash with tan seats please! Global warming heats up that all black interior too easily.
I am going to buy a HD zr2. The only thing I don’t like about it and will probably change after I get it is the pattern cut into the seats. The grey I can take. The new leather will be black with bright yell stitching
I have a ZR2 because the interior of the Canyon AT4X was hideous in white. And yes options please. But, too late now because I’m stuck with black.
