Hyundai has unveiled the updated 2025 Ioniq 5 lineup, debuting a new off-road-focused trim level, increased battery capacity, and several other changes. In addition, Hyundai has announced that it is moving Ioniq 5 production to the U.S. When it goes on sale, the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 will rival the Chevy Equinox EV.
First and foremost, the 2025 Ioniq 5 debuts the new XRT trim level, offered as the more rugged variant of the lineup. The XRT stands out from the pack thanks to unique front and rear fascia designed, etched digital camouflage cladding, and model-specific 18-inch wheels wrapped in 235/60R18 all-terrain tires. The XRT also also boasts a greater ground clearance and a unique suspension tune, while the interior is equipped with H-Tex seating surfaces with exclusive patterning, XRT badging, and a black headliner.
In addition to the new off-roader XRT trim, the 2025 Ioniq 5 also benefits from an increased battery capacity, extending the driving range. Standard-range models now have a battery capacity of 63.0 kWh, up from 58.0 kWh, while the long-range models have been upgraded to 84 kWh from 77.4 kWh. The higher capacity results in a targeted driving range of more than 310 miles for the rear-wheel-drive variants. To note, the Chevy Equinox EV keeps its bragging rights as “America’s most affordable 315+ mile range EV,” as although pricing for the 2025 Ioniq 5 has yet to be released, it’s unlikely to start under the $34,995 price tag attached to the 2025 Chevy Equinox EV.
That said, the 2025 Ioniq 5 does include an NACS (North American Charging Standard) compatible charging port, providing customers with access to more than 17,000 Tesla Supercharger stations, a perk that Chevy customers are still waiting on.
What’s more, the Ioniq 5 is the first model to be produced at the newly opened Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA) in Georgia, a move that’s expected to make U.S.-built Ioniq 5 models eligible for a federal tax incentive when it goes on sale. U.S.-market units of the Ioniq 5 were previously produced in South Korea.
The new all-electric 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is expected in dealers this Fall.
