Lexus is one of Cadillac‘s primary rivals in the luxury auto space, so we’re now comparing how sales of both luxury marques compare for the second quarter of 2024.
During Q2 2024, total Cadillac sales in the U.S. market were down one percent to 38,455 units, while Lexus sales increased nine percent to 88,740 deliveries, meaning Lexus outsold Cadillac more than twofold.

This quarter, sales of the regular-length Escalade and extended-length Escalade ESV are reported on the same line.
The RX crossover – the direct rival to the Cadillac XT5 – was Lexus’ most popular at 28,482. This model alone came within 10K units of Cadillac sales.

EVs
In the nascent EV space, Cadillac outsold Lexus by over 3.2K deliveries during Q2 2024. Each luxury marque sells just one BEV, though Cadillac will soon launch a few more.
Absent here are plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), representing a bridge between ICE and EV powertrains. Sales of those are not broken out, but are instead included in their respective sections above. While GM and, by association, Cadillac, doesn’t currently sell any PHEVs, the automaker says they will arrive in 2027.
The Cadillac Lyriq accounted for 7,294 units for its best quarterly performance yet.

The GM Authority Take
Overall, Lexus outsold Cadillac by 50,285 units during the second quarter of 2024, which is more than the 38K units sold by Cadillac in the first place.
Lexus’ broader portfolio, buttressed by a vastly different brand image, allows Toyota Motor Corporation’s luxury arm to dominate Cadillac in terms of sales volume. However, GM’s luxury marque did lead in EV sales, and has additional models on the way, which should widen that lead further.

Comments
oouu another one.
ooouu you “already knew” this information, right?
That Cadillac’s sales were low? You guys posted their Q2 earnings with a lot of detail. I was referring to the string of articles highlighting brands outselling Cadillac.
Not saying it’s a bad article
Lexus sells more fuel efficient hybrids than Cadillac…have to give them credit there.
Now, for reliability, that is a WASH now. Newer Lexus are NOT the same as those in the 80s or 10s….twin turbo engines EXCEPT maybe in the TX, LC, and RC (the latter two which Cadillac does compete with in the BWs…).
Anyone who says otherwise- suit yourself and spend money for them. There is reason why (on the USED market) Cadillacs are generally cheaper than Lexus…so people can afford them, particularly those who cannot afford a Lexus (other than Toyota Loyalists….).
“Now, for reliability, that is a WASH now. “
Not really. After three years of ownership, Lexus is #1 at 135 pp100 in the JD Power Vehicle Dependability Study ((VDS). Cadillac was #12 at 196 pp100. Average was 190.
Lots of people don’t like Power except nearly all the OEM’s buy and use it because it’s validated and documented research whether we liked it or not. Often not. We and other OEM’s have looked at the all the underlying data behind the results and yep it’s the real deal. All statistically valid.
Want a better Domestic brand vehicle? Buy a Buick or Chevy. Those brands are ranked #3 and #4 respectively. An excellent showing!
Agree on some initial quality issues (90 days of ownership) Toyota has had with their recent launches especially. That’s on full display in their initial quality rankings.
CR is LIKELY well paid by Toyota and Lexus….so there is that…and, no I am NOT JOKING, nor am I lying.
The electronics is what has pushed Cadillac DOWN…and newer Lexus have plenty of electronics…they are NOT the same old ones of the 80s and 90s….
Cadillac has lost much appeal over the years. Years ago buyers wanted to move up and achieve a Cadillac status. Today aside from the Escalade the public is not that excited about what they see in Cadillac. For EV lovers the Lyriq offers an option for something new. This is not the days of the Eldorado, Seville, Deville! They are pretty boring sedans or crossovers that all look the same. They will get rid of many of these models in the next 5 years. CT4, CT5 XT4 and XT5 and XT6 destined to be gone in near future.
