GM crossover sales were flat with 283,413 deliveries in the United States during the second quarter of 2024. These figures include models with internal combustion engines as well as electric vehicles.
GM offers 20 unibody crossovers across all four brands, both ICE models and EVs. However, three of those models have been discontinued. That includes the Buick Encore, which is indirectly replaced by the all-new Buick Envista. While production is officially over for the current generation Chevy Bolt EV and Bolt EUV duo, they still notched over 1,300 sales last quarter.
Crossovers accounted for 81 percent, or just over four-fifths, of all GM utility sales (see below). While sales were flat in Q2 2024, most models were in the red, with the group bolstered by a few notable entries.

The all-new subcompact Chevy Trax jumped to the top for the first time ever with a 153 percent leap in sales to 52,875 units, leading crossovers and all utilities. The Bow Tie brand’s new entry-level model edged out the compact Chevy Equinox, posting a one percent slip to 52,270 units. It was followed by the subcompact-plus Chevy Trailblazer with an 18 percent dip to 27,891 units. Chevy’s three smallest utilities alone claimed the top three spots among GM crossovers, accounting for 47 percent, or almost half, of overall sales in the U.S.
The only models to post sales gains were the Trax and compact GMC Terrain, which saw a 38 percent bump in sales to 27,259 units.
Chevy models accounted for 63 percent, or more than three-fifths, of overall GM crossover sales, with the Bow Tie brand again fielding four of the top five models and the most entries among The General’s automotive divisions. Specifically, Chevy makes up nine of the 20 crossovers sold by GM in its home market (though, as mentioned earlier, two have been discontinued). Buick accounted for 16 percent of overall sales with five models (with one having been discontinued), which is all that the premium marque sells in the U.S. GMC followed with 13 percent of sales from just two crossovers. Cadillac accounted for eight percent from its four models.
GM now fields five all-electric utilities – just crossovers for now – with Chevy selling the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV duo along with the Chevy Blazer EV and new Chevy Equinox EV, while Cadillac sells the Cadillac Lyriq.
(Sometimes, like this quarter, U.S. sales figures are not broken out for the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV but are combined.)

GM EV utility sales moved 16,315 units during Q2 2024, accounting for six percent of crossover sales and five percent of all utility sales.
Buyers sometimes cross-shop body-on-frame SUV equivalents to unibody crossovers, especially ones that are similar in size, like the Chevy Tahoe SUV and Chevy Traverse crossover. Buick is currently the only GM brand that doesn’t offer a body-on-frame model. Combined sales of GM utilities, comprised of crossovers and SUVs, were down three percent to 352,842 units.
(Sometimes, U.S. sales figures are not broken out for the Yukon and Yukon XL, but are combined, like this quarter. The same is true for U.S. sales figures of the Escalade and Escalade ESV, which are also combined this quarter.)

Look “under the hood” for the likely reason for the decline…
Are you gonna find the likely US recession under there?
Most everything was flat or declined slightly in Q2. I’m hoping for a bigger decline to start getting some sense back in the market. Because we sure don’t have sense right now.
12 out of the 20 CUVs are built outside of the US. Way to go gm!
Convert a plant in the USA and build Trax for North America. 🇺🇸
Reopen lordstown and build the Trax, Trailblazer, Encore and Avista there. They should be able to make a profit if the plant can churn out 300k units a year unlike when the plant was building the Cruise.
The crossover fad is finally fading, but wait, GM just killed most of its cars! What now??
