Turbo LS-Swapped 1969 Chevy Bel Air Up For Auction In Canada: Video

If you love the styling of the 1969 Chevy Bel Air but need something a little more modern under the hood, this particular auction might be just the ticket. From the outside, this Chevy looks relatively standard, save for the staggered aftermarket wheels rolling the corners. However, as soon as you climb behind the wheel, you’ll have a twin-turbo 5.7L V8 LS1 at your command.
Recently posted to Bring A Trailer, this 1969 Chevy Bel Air is making big power thanks to a pair of 68mm CXRacing turbochargers. Although the auction listing does not state exactly what sort of power numbers are in play, it does state that it recently had a boost leak fix and a new boost controller installed, with max pressure set to 10 psi. At that level, we’d expect around 600 horsepower, which is quite a bit for an application like this. The power is sent to the rear end through the 4L80-E four-speed automatic transmission, a 2,000-rpm stall converter, and a 12-bolt rear end, plus line lock.
Despite the big power on tap, the brake setup keeps drums in the rear and small discs up front. There’s also no mention of any suspension upgrades, which suggests this Bel Air could be quite a handful when you dip into the boost.
Externally, the body panels are covered in Garnet Red paint, the original factory color, while a set of 20-inch Ridler wheels provide the only exterior hint at modernity. The wheels are wrapped in 255/35 tires in the front and 275/35 tires in the rear. The listing also mentions that one of the headlight lenses is cracked.
Moving inside, we find the bench seats covered in black vinyl upholstery, while cruise control and a retro-style, Bluetooth-enabled stereo are on the list of amenities. In the dash, you’ll find Dakota Digital gauges, giving the interior a mix of classic and contemporary touches.
Now, this LS-powered Chevy Bel Air is up for grabs on Bring a Trailer, with the auction set to end on Saturday, August 17th, 2024. No bids have been placed as of this writing (8/12/2024). The car is located in Manitoba, Canada.

My first car at age 15 was a 69 BelAire with a 327 Powerslide. Sold it and bought a 67 Mustang at age 16 to drive to school. I bought some craftsman tools and learned how to work on it because I couldn’t afford to pay someone else to work on it. Those were the days!
Love the idea of this and it looks great…maybe the wheels are to individual taste. But 600hp and those tiny brakes and presumably the original suspension set up, a bit scary.
I’ll say it for you-the wheels are awful.
Had a 69 Impala 2 door with a a 350 dual exhaust and 3 on the tree also had fender skirts on the the back wish I had it today
My dad had a 68 SS 427 Impala. Would love to have that back. He sometimes had to drive through the King Ranch country at night and was concerned about deer and other animals in road, so installed a pair of aircraft landing lights in place of the high beam bulbs. Those things lit up the world, but he had to put in some heavier wiring to support them. Great cars, but they were a little short on brakes back then.
Fix the wheel situation, maybe some Rallys in a larger than stock size. Turn to your disc brake supplier of choice as well. Lower it a little on a good suspension and it could be a fun Saturday night cruiser.
