General Motors has released a Service Update for certain Chevy Silverado EV units due to an issue with an erroneous label.
According to Service Update N242451390, select 2024 and 2025 model-year vehicles may have a condition where the 12-volt battery negative cable was erroneously labeled with a First Responder Emergency Cut Loop label. To rectify this problem, certified GM technicians will be instructed to inspect affected vehicles and remove the First Responder Emergency Cut Loop label from the 12-volt battery negative cable. This fix should take techs roughly 15 minutes to perform.
It’s worth noting that it’s currently unclear how many units are affected by this incorrect labeling.
In other Silverado EV-related developments, GM Authority recently reported that the Bow Tie brand’s all-electric pickup truck will be available in several new trim levels, including the LT, non-First Edition RST, and all-terrain Trail Boss models. Beyond that, the entry-level Silverado EV Work Truck (WT) will be offered with one of three battery sizes, ranging from the Standard Range (2WT), the Extended Range (5WT), and the Max Range (8WT). Notably, these three variants will replace the 2024 Silverado EV‘s 3WT and 4WT trims.
As a reminder, the Chevy Silverado EV develops propulsion by way of GM Ultium batteries and GM Ultium Drive motor technologies. It’s capable of producing up to 754 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque when in the Wide Open Watts, or “WOW,” mode and configured as the range-topping RST First Edition model. Zero to 60 mph rushes by in roughly 4.5 seconds, while range figures sit at 440 miles on a full charge.
Under the body panels, the all-electric pickup is underpinned by the narrow-body version of the GM BT1 platform, which it shares with the GMC Sierra EV. Of course, the Hummer EV Pickup and Hummer EV SUV ride on the wide-body variant of the same architecture. Production is currently scheduled to commence in September 2024 at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan.
