Certain units of the 2021 GMC Canyon pickup equipped with the Duramax turbodiesel 2.8L I4 LWN engine are included in a new Special Coverage bulletin The General has just issued, related to a throttle body problem with a currently available fix.

If the throttle body motor does not complete the noted operation in time, several problems can result. These include illumination of the Check Engine light as well as generation of a diagnostic trouble code (DTC). Furthermore, the affected diesel 2021 GMC Canyon may have its engine switch over to reduced power mode as a result of the glitch.

General Motors offers a remedy for affected GMC Canyon pickups. Dealer service personnel are instructed to carry out a throttle body replacement if diagnostics confirm the problem exists in a specific truck. The current throttle body is removed and a new throttle body installed, along with two throttle body gaskets. The work can be completed in about one hour.

The problem, if present, is to be remedied free of charge to the customer regardless of original ownership of the GMC Canyon. If the repair was already carried out before the Special Coverage bulletin in mid-August 2024, the owner is likely to be eligible for reimbursement. The Special Coverage extends free-of-charge coverage of the repair to 15 years or 150,000 miles.

As a reminder, the 2021 Canyon is powered by one of two powerplants, with the atmospheric 3.6L LGZ V6 gasoline engine rated at 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque as standard.
