GM has issued a Special Coverage notification for certain 2021 Chevy Colorado pickup units describing a coverage extension related to a throttle body issue in trucks motivated by the Duramax turbodiesel 2.8L I4 LWN engine.
According to Special Coverage notification number N242445290, affected Chevy Colorado trucks may experience a condition in which the throttle position learn cycle of the throttle body motor does not successfully complete within the required time.
If the condition described above occurs, a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will be set and the “check engine” light will light up on the dash. The affected 2021 Chevy Colorado unit may also experience a loss of engine power as the truck’s systems respond to the problem by placing the engine in reduced power mode.
Once diagnostics and other inspection measures determine that this condition is indeed present in a specific Chevy Colorado, GM instructs its dealership service personnel to replace the current throttle body with a new one. This requires the throttle body itself and two throttle body gaskets, and takes about an hour of work, including diagnostics.
The fix is offered free of charge regardless of the current owner. Additionally, the notification extends Special Coverage for this Chevy Colorado throttle body issue only to 15 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. Repairs made before the current notification must be submitted for reimbursement.
This notification applies to only one engine option offered for the 2021 Chevy Colorado, the aforementioned Duramax turbodiesel 2.8L I4 LWN engine developing 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The other two powerplants, including the naturally aspirated 2.5L I4 LCV gasoline engine rated at 200 horsepower and 191 pound-feet of torque, , and the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LGZ cranking out 308 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque are not affected.
At that time, the Colorado offered both the GM six-speed automatic transmission and the GM eight-speed automatic transmission, with standard 2WD and optional 4WD.
