The Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon have an updated midsize pickup rival in the refreshed 2025 Nissan Frontier, which just debuted with revised styling, additional configurations, and an assortment of new technological features making it a more significant competitor to GM’s contenders.
The 2025 Nissan Frontier also offers increased towing and hauling capabilities along with the other updates and changes introduced by its mid-cycle refresh.
The aesthetic part of the 2025 Nissan Frontier refresh includes a reworked front fascia with more “rugged” styling elements. The front bumper and grille sport a new look, while the truck rides on a freshly designed set of 17-inch alloy wheels. The 2025 model year also introduces a new, eye-catching exterior paint color – Afterburner Orange – to the palette.
Functionally, the 2025 Frontier sees its towing capacity increased from a maximum rating of 6,640 pounds to a current 7,150 pounds, or an increase of roughly a quarter-ton. The truck’s 6-foot Long Bed configuration, with a supporting long wheelbase, has expanded availability, now offered on three trim levels including the SV, PRO-4X and SL trims instead of just the SV as was previously the case.
In comparison, the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon no longer offer a long-bed body style since their 2023 model-year redesign.
For the 2025 Nissan Frontier interior, the changes are headlined by a new 12.3-inch infotainment system touchscreen on the SV trim and higher trim levels in place of the 8-inch display previously standard on all trims. The steering column gets a telescoping function in addition to tilt, and a sliding rear window is now standard.
Wireless Android Auto replaces the earlier wired version. Active safety features including Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning, High Beam Assist and Intelligent Cruise Control are now standard instead of being relegated to the optional Technology Package offered on all trim levels.
Motivation is supplied to the 2025 Nissan Frontier by a 3.8L V6 engine developing 310 horsepower and 281 pound-feet of torque and mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Drivetrain configurations will include both RWD and 4WD.
For comparison, the 2024 Chevy Colorado offers two engine options, the Turbo 2.7L I4 L2R gasoline engine developing 237 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, and the Turbo 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine supplying 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. The 2024 GMC Canyon is available exclusively with the latter, now branded as the TurboMax engine.
The 2025 Frontier will launch at dealerships in late summer 2024 per the press release, with price information to be made public at some point in between.

Good looking Datsun
They’ve never put out a good product. You never see old Nissans on the road.
That’s a lie 😂
Hope that “Frontier” emblem on the dash can be peeled -off with a heat gun and putty knife….
But then how will I know where I am?
Looks like Nissan is giving customers a choice with a mid size truck. A V6 and not just a turbo 4 cylinder and the availability of a long bed !! What ever happened to giving customers a choice GM ?
Can’t flat tow the Frontier. Stick with a Colorado or Canyon.
Before I bought a new Colorado, I test drove the 2024 Frontier on two separate occasions, the Nissan dealership was very eager to unload the Frontier the price was really worth taking a second look at. Chevy Dealership was not willing to sell Colorado for anything less then MSRP. After driving both I came to the conclusion that I liked the Colorado styling, ride and features much better. Even though the Colorado cost me $7000 more then a similar equipped Nissan. I still bought Colorado.
If Nissan could get rid of the swoop side window style that they copied from Ford (and I feel has now been overplayed) and I’m so sick of, I may have gone that way, even ford needs to make a change with the swooped side window in my opinion.
I have been on the fence about purchasing a midsize truck because of the small bed sizes. I mean, why bother just get an SUV.
Then i was introduced to the Frontier with the available 6 foot bed and I could get the smaller cab. Ratings from the critics were low though so I’ve been waiting for someone to offer a 6 foot bed. I really like the refresh and color option. Looks like I’m going for a test drive. Sorry GM but the unusable tiny bed you offer is a no go for me!
We just purchased a Frontier for a whole slew of reasons, the most important being that they had stock. In Canada, few Colorados have been delivered and most are either white or black in those trims we were not interested in. The Frontiers came in those colours we wanted and with all the options we were looking for. We would have liked to have purchased a Tacoma, but they were simply too expensive. We found the Frontiers had the most cabin space (although admittedly this segment is limited regardless of the model). It came down to what was available.
