General Motors has released a Customer Satisfaction Program containing a fix for an issue affecting certain units of the 2022 through 2024 Chevy LCF 4500 And 5500 low cab forward commercial truck models, in which false positive diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are generated.
The Chevy LCF units can be fixed, according to Customer Satisfaction Program N242469060, without the replacement of any physical components.
Affected 2022, 2023 and 2024 Chevy LCF 4500 and 5500 HD and XD trucks are equipped with the Isuzu 5.2L I4 I1B turbodiesel engine developing 215 horsepower and 452 pound-feet of torque. All affected units are also equipped with four-wheel disc brakes.
The issue affecting these Chevy LCF trucks is generation of one of two possible diagnostic trouble codes when in fact no problem that would cause the DTC exists. The codes are P2201 or P20EE, and are related to NOx sensor or diesel exhaust system NOx trap problems. They are also accompanied by an illuminated “Check Engine” light on the dash.
Dealers are to fix this issue by reprogramming the electronic control module (ECM) and/or the Diesel Exhaust Fluid Control Module (DCU) with the proper service calibrations provided by GM. The customer is to be reimbursed as appropriate for the repair, which takes slightly less than an hour to complete. This field repair action for the truck is available through August 31st, 2026.
The Chevy LCF was previously recalled in March 2024 for an ignition coil pack fuse issue. Chevy Low Cab Forward truck sales increased significantly during the first quarter (Q1) of 2024, growing by 71 percent.
As a reminder, the Chevy LCF truck results from a partnership between GM and Isuzu Motors announced in June 2015. Recently, Isuzu revealed that its F-Series of cab-over medium-duty trucks will get an Accelera battery-electric powertrain, leading to the possibility of a battery-electric variant of the Chevrolet Low Cab Forward, since the F-Series and the LCF are essentially identical.
