The 2025 Corvette ZR1 got its big debut late last month, showing off a modern track weapon wearing high-downforce aero and boasting four-digit engine output, making for the fastest and most powerful production Vette ever produced. It’s an impressive bit of kit, and no surprise then that GM seems quite proud of its new creation. Now, GM President Mark Reuss is visiting Jay Leno‘s garage to discuss the new C8 ZR1 in the following video feature.
Clocking in at 26-and-a-half minutes, the video includes a look at both the modern 2025 C8 ZR1, as well as a classic 1967 Corvette Sting Ray, connecting the past and present of GM’s iconic sports car. The ’67 actually belonged to Mark Reuss’ father, Lloyd E. Reuss, who, interestingly enough, also served as GM President between 1990 and 1992.
Through the video, Jay and Mark discuss the evolution of Vette’s design and performance, covering a range of topics, including the advancements made from the classic front-engine layout to the modern mid-engine setup of the C8. Mark also shares a few personal anecdotes, including his father’s involvement in GM and the family’s long-standing connection to the brand, plus the 1967 Corvette’s power and durability, particularly its two-speed Powerglide transmission, which was favored in drag racing for its strength.
The conversation later shifts to the new ZR1 Corvette, which boasts 1,064 horsepower thanks to the twin-turbocharged 5.5L V8 LT7 engine, as well as advanced aerodynamics and all the trimmings to make use of all that output. Mark explains some of the engineering challenges behind the ZR1’s creation, such as achieving a distinct exhaust sound and optimizing performance through sophisticated modeling techniques.
Although Jay doesn’t get a chance to climb behind the wheel (the video was released prior to GM lifting an embargo on driving impressions), the video is definitely an interesting watch for anyone interested in the new C8 ZR1 or America’s Sports Car in general.
