GM Design Team Releases 2025 GMC Terrain Sketches And Renderings

Earlier this month, GM unveiled the 2025 GMC Terrain, marking the first model year for the compact crossover’s third generation. The new model introduces a host of updates, including a rugged, truck-inspired exterior and a thoroughly overhauled interior packed with the latest infotainment technology. Now, the GM Design team has offered a behind-the-scenes look at the creative process behind the 2025 Terrain, sharing several sketches and renderings that led to the final production model.

These artistic insights were posted to the GM Design Instagram account (@generalmotorsdesign), showcasing multiple angles. The sketches provide a glimpse into the early stages of the process, with the exterior incorporating the usual concept elements like a lowered roofline and oversized wheels. Despite the stylistic flair, the essential features of the third-generation Terrain are already visible in these early designs.

Key design elements that transitioned from the sketches to the production model include the redesigned front end, featuring a rectangular air intake and distinctive C-shaped lighting signatures at the corners. The side profile reveals a prominent shark fin C-pillar, a design cue seen elsewhere in GM’s crossover and SUV lineup. The rear design maintains the C-shaped lighting theme, with horizontal lines that extend into the hatch, mirroring the production vehicle’s final look.

Inside, the sketches hint at the major interior overhaul, highlighting a large, tablet-style infotainment screen as the centerpiece. Under the screen is a series of toggle switches and a spacious tray, ideal for smartphones or additional storage. The central console houses cupholders and a wide armrest. Notably, one of the renderings shows the shifter positioned on the central tunnel, a detail that contrasts with the final production model’s design.

As a reminder, the 2025 GMC Terrain is powered by the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine, with the updated GM D2-2 platform providing the underpinnings. Production takes place at the GM San Luis Potosí plant in Mexico.

  1. Glad it looks way better in reality. Maybe a little too similar to the Equinox but I’ll take that over the atrocity known as the prior gen.

  2. Funny how the reality NEVER looks as good as the concepts .

    1. What a shame. A modern style body with only half an engine.

  3. Why nothing about interior space? I have had two first gen Terrains, but the smaller size locked me out of the second gen.

  4. I like the concept drawing, but it’s not a Terrain. To me it looks like they drew their inspiration from ATV buggies and off-roaders more than they did from trucks. I think they found the right balance with the final product.

  5. Wow. It was bad in the Initial sketches too?

Usually the business major bloat happens later as attempt to save money.

But this looked bad from day one.
