The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is a beastly machine, offering up nearly 670 horsepower thanks to a heavy dose of supercharged V8 thunder under the hood. No doubt, the CT5-V Blackwing has what it takes to challenge some of Europe’s finest. Now, we’re watching exactly that in the following comparison video.
Coming to us from the folks at Edmunds, the video is a little over 16 minutes long and shows the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing lining up against the 2024 BMW M4 Competition in the publication’s “U-Drag” format. The comparison includes a straight-line drag race, followed by heavy braking and a tight hairpin, with a second straight-line drag to the finish, testing all of the important performance metrics in a single go. After racing head-to-head, the cars switch lanes and drivers to help even out the unpredictable elements. After laying down a few runs, the best time tells the winner.
First and foremost, the CT5-V Blackwing is no joke. With 668 horsepower and 659 pound-feet of torque from the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine mounted up front, the CT5-V Blackwing is nothing short of the most track-capable production machine to ever wear a Cadillac badge.
However, the rival in this comparison is no slouch, either. Powering the Bimmer is a turbocharged 3.0L I6 making 503 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. That’s less than the Cadillac, but the BMW is lighter, tipping the scales at 3,786 pounds, versus 4,121 pounds for the Caddy, giving it a better power-to-weight ratio.
Both cars are running the same Michelin tires.
With multiple races to determine the winner, this comparison showcases just how impressive both of these machines truly are. The question, then, becomes this – which luxury performer will take the W? Hit play to find out:
As an aside, looking at the results at the end of the video, the CT5-V Blackwing actually beats the C8 Stingray in Edmunds‘ U-Drag leaderboard. Impressive stuff.

The Cadillac Ct5-V is the better car. Only a German fanatic would go for the BMW.
It’s better looking too!
A purple Edsel??
Where is your source the BMW will drop 50%? I’ll wait.
Hard pass on the Bavarian Money Waster. Next year the CT5-V will have depreciated 5-10% (if that) whereas the BMW will have dropped 50%.
If you’ve ever had to get your BMW repaired, it will definitely quench your thirst for them.
Took a look at the 2024 Caddy and IMHO, the interior left a lot to be desired for a vehicle in that price segment. I understand that there will be an interior refresh for 2025. Hopefully that will help it be more competitive. This car is currently on my list should I tire of what I’m in now.
I love how they keep comparing the 5V BW to the M3 when they are clearly in different classes in terms of size and HP. I’m no M3 expert but isn’t the comp also AWD vs the 5V’s RWD?
One can purchase the M3 and M4 in AWD. The AWD and Competition package is not available in with the manual transmission.
