Drama-Filled Tasmania 2024 Weekend For Chevy Camaro Racers: Video

Race 17 of the 2024 Australian Supercars Championship belonged to the Bow Tie, when the No. 10 Chevy Camaro of Nick Percat shot across the stripe first, holding off a hard-charging Ford at Symmons Plains Raceway on August 17th.

Percat took advantage of pit strategy to track the frontrunners in Tasmania, taking the lead from fellow Chevy racer Broc Feeney in the No. 88 Camaro. Late in the race, the No. 25 Ford Mustang GT of Chaz Mostert charged through the field to challenge Percat, but it would be the No. 10 Camaro celebrating in Victory Lane, winning by a thin 0.61-second margin and bumping Percat to sixth place in the points standings.

“I don’t think anyone can say we lucked into it with people spearing off, or anything,” said Nick Percat. “The Bendix car has been on rails since we rolled out the truck. It is a pleasure to drive. I can’t thank Matt [Stone], [engineer Jack] Belotti, everyone on my car [enough]. The faith is there, and when you’ve got the faith you go well. The thing was a jet. Obviously Chaz [Mostert] was coming on his three tires but I felt I could control the race.”

Feeney finished third in Race 17, while the No. 6 Mustang of Cam Waters finished fourth and Brodie Kostecki’s No. 1 Camaro rounded out the top five.

Race 18 went to Ford on August 18th. Waters took the win over Will Brown, driver of the No. 87 Chevy Camaro, who still holds the championship lead. However, in the closing laps, the No. 55 Mustang of Thomas Randle and Feeney tangled. Feeney demoted Randle, who attempted to fire back and reclaim third place. The two cars made contact, sending Feeney for a spin. Randle was given a 15-second penalty after the incident, while Feeney dropped like a rock to 16th place.

While Randle finished sixth overall, he was ultimately credited with 18th place. Feeney, meanwhile, finished 15th. See the incident for yourself in the video below, starting at around the 10-minute mark.

Heading into Race 20 and 21, Brown maintains the points lead, followed by Mostert, Feeney, Waters, and Matt Payne, driver of the No. 19 Mustang, in fifth.
