While it is still in fifth place among the most affordable new vehicles currently offered for sale in the United States, the Chevy Trax will soon rise to third place in the list as competing models are retired or get significant pricing changes.
Even in fifth place, the Chevy Trax is more affordable than last year, when it was in eighth place among the top ten thriftiest vehicles available to Americans. The table below shows the top 15 most affordable cars in the USA, with prices including MSRP, destination freight charge, and the additional cost of an automatic transmission, if applicable:
Rank | Model | Base MSRP + DFC |
---|---|---|
1 | 2024 Nissan Versa | $19,490 |
2 | 2024 Hyundai Venue | $21,295 |
3 | 2025 Chevy Trax | $21,495 |
4 | 2025 Kia Soul | $21,665 |
5 | 2024 Nissan Sentra | $22,320 |
6 | 2024 Hyundai Elantra | $22,775 |
7 | 2025 Kia K4 | $23,145 |
8 | 2024 Toyota Corolla | $23,185 |
9 | 2025 Nissan Kicks | $23,220 |
10 | 2024 Volkswagen Jetta | $23,460 |
11 | 2025 Buick Envista | $23,995 |
12 | 2024 Subaru Impreza | $24,115 |
13 | 2025 Chevy Trailblazer | $24,395 |
14 | 2024 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport | $25,190 |
15 | 2025 Honda Civic | $25,345 |
Changes to the list of available vehicles have shifted the Chevy Trax upward toward the number one position. The previously most-affordable new car in the U.S., the Mitsubishi Mirage, will be discontinued after the 2024 model year. The Kia Rio was retired after the 2023 model year, while the Kia Forte is being replaced by the new Kia K4 for the 2025 model year.
The rest have received normal price increases for the new model year, but the Chevy Trax kept its $21,495 base MSRP, inclusive of DFC, for both the 2024 Trax and the 2025 Trax.
The Chevy Trax will rise to fourth place on the list once the 2024 Mitsubishi Mirage – which currently starts at $17,840 – is discontinued, though dealers will continue to have units of the Mirage in inventory for several months. Looking farther into the future, the Nissan Versa will be axed from the automaker’s lineup following the 2025 model year.
Two other General Motors models are on the top 15 most affordable vehicles list, with the 2025 Buick Envista and 2025 Chevy Trailblazer ranking 11th and 13th respectively. Nissan also has three models among the top 15 most affordable, while Hyundai has two and Kia has two.
As a reminder, the new second-gen Trax is a popular compact crossover model with robust sales. The 2025 Chevy Trax will be motivated by the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LBP gasoline engine developing 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque and capable of using E85 fuel. This engine is mated to the GM six-speed automatic transmission and standard front-wheel drive.
The current-generation Trax crossover is underpinned by the GM VSS-F vehicle set. The North American variant of the vehicle is produced exclusively at the GM Changwon plant in South Korea.

It’s by far the best-looking and should squash the new ’25 Nissan Kicks, with its homely looks and much higher pricing, in no time flat. And the teeny-meeny Venue too. It’ll be #1 a year from now.
Kicks you can get AWD and Bose stereo competing with Trailblazer. I bet also the AC and everything else will work. Trax’s style over substance in my book is a loser.
If Chevy can offer an electric version for a low price, it can outsell tbe low cost electric imports.
No CVT on the Trax, which is a big plus. The Versa is being discontinued in ‘25 which would make the Trax number 2 in affordability. But big minus is the dealers not discounting it, and worse yet, still price gouging it with “additional dealer markups,” paint sealants, nitrogen in tires, extended warranties, etc.
I see these lists and right away it’s all bull—t. I never met a person who ever owned a base model car. I think the best way to present this list or any list is to show all the cars with the additions that most people would have on their vehicle. Then look at the differences. just my opinion.
Supposedly GM, and Toyota are releasing sub-$20,000 trucks in the 2025 model year….
Very nice if they can do it. People don’t want to buy a $100,000 + unreliable truck… That is Stelantis’ current problem.
No way either of them will be doing that, at least not in our market.
The Honda and Toyota are the only ones worth anything when you are ready for a change
ENTRY car at best. 1.2 liter no way this car will give you 6 or 7 years of driving. Cars are way too expensive to be buying one every 4 years
So unlucky and unsatisfied getting this brand new chevrolet trax 2025 model. I got one last june 27, 2024 and not even a month of driving it the AC is not working at all. Brought back the car to the dealership thinking that it would be fixed like what the maintenance service man told me that it is an easy fix but unfortunately up to this date the guy fr the service dep’t. told me that they don’t have the part to replace the broken one.
When are those brainiacs at GM going to make an electric one?
What’s the difference between a Blazer and an Equinox? Not much! But the price sure does suck on both of them.
And to think the best seller was the Bolt. They made the EUV for what; about 2 years before dropping both models?
Bought my ’20 model brand NEW for $24k with a $40k window sticker. Still have the car and the window sticker.
When you true believers going to realize Mara Bara ain’t no good. And you all give her $27 million a year just for showing up to the office every day? She was worth more to the company working in the fabric shop. Maybe?
