The 2024 Chevy Trax was the only General Motors SUV or crossover model to make it onto the 2024 Best Cars for Car Seats list published by Cars.com following a year of research into the best seating available in modern U.S. passenger vehicles.
Most of the successful competitors to the 2024 Chevy Trax are brands from Europe or Asia, including a number of Volkswagen models, Kia, Subaru, Nissan, Honda, Porsche, and a range of other automakers, per the results published by Cars.com.
While a few models got straight “A” ratings across all categories, the 2024 Chevy Trax was rated A only for the “latch” category. It got a B grade in the Infant, RFC (rear-facing convertible), and FFC (front-facing convertible) categories and a C in the Booster category. Relatedly, the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado got two A and three B grades among pickup truck seats.
The Latch category rates the ease with which lower anchors and top tethers for the second-row seating can be accessed and used when installing car seats. Infant refers to the ease of installation of rear-facing child seats, while the two convertible categories refer to ease of use for rear- and front-facing convertible seats. Booster refers to ease of installation and access for a high-back booster seat.
To derive a seat rating for the vehicles, including the 2024 Chevy Trax, Cars.com tests the installation ease of various aftermarket seats. These include a “Chicco KeyFit 30 infant car seat, a Graco Contender 65 convertible, and a Graco TurboBooster.” All are placed in the second row for two-row vehicles like the Trax, behind the driver’s seat.
Meanwhile, overall reactions to the Chevy Trax are mixed. The affordable, compact Bow Tie crossover received several awards, with the auto brand publishing a video highlighting those accolades. The awards include a place on the Car and Driver 10Best Trucks and SUVs list and the Trax’s status as the Cars.com Best Car of 2024. However, Consumer Reports says the Trax should be avoided because of its low power, stiff ride, and cheap interior.
As a reminder, the 2024 Chevy Trax is motivated exclusively by the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine developing 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, mated to the GM six-speed automatic transmission and FWD. The GM VSS-F vehicle set provides the bones.
Production takes place at the GM Changwon plant in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea.

The ‘24 Trax is one of the best vehicles I have ever owned. Zero problems since April. Nothing not to dislike about it.👍🏻
Same here.
