Camaro Models, Including A Batmobile, Busted In Portland Street Racing Crackdown: Photos

Law enforcement in Portland, Oregon are cracking down on street racing and street takeovers, posting a series of arrests and vehicle seizures to social media. The crackdown is part of a broader “multi-agency street racing suppression mission,” with nearly a dozen arrests made in a single weekend. Among the vehicles cited was a customized Chevy Camaro with Batmobile-themed graphics.

According to the Portland Tribune, the Chevy Camaro Batmobile driver was cited for a traffic violation. However, at least 10 vehicles were towed over the weekend, while 11 arrests were made. Several vehicles were seized via asset forfeiture for participation in street racing and street takeovers.

“Throughout the evening, participants tried to establish takeovers of at least six intersections,” police state, per the Portland Tribune. “The police response led to all of the takeovers ending quickly.”

Police provided a summary of major incidents over the weekend, highlighting some of the arrests made, some of the attempted takeovers, and other violations. One of the incidents details a Cadillac with switched license plates, the driver of which was arrested for an outstanding warrant, as well as an alleged street racer who fired multiple shots into the air from their vehicle.

Several other drivers attempted to elude police, only to be caught later, while two individuals were killed while attempting to flee police after their vehicle hit a utility pole. Some of the vehicles mentioned include the Chevy Camaro, Ford Mustang, a BMW, and a Ford Crown Victoria.

In a social media post, Portland Police show a photo of an individual handcuffed in front of a black Chevy Camaro. The photo was apparently snapped after the driver attempted to elude police, only to have the tires on their Camaro spiked. The driver was arrested and the car was impounded.

  3. Back in the day we used the Conduit in Queens NY for our street racing and the police lets us race for a 1/4 mile and only when traffic permitted.Racing on regular streets is nuts and can kill as this article states.Want to race, find a track to race on and if none try and get one built I’m sure there is plenty of money in these cars so have all them donate and maybe get a sponsor!

  4. Let them have their fun. We did back in the 60s and the police never bothered us. Just don’t go up on the sidewalks

  5. You can’t let them have fun. They have 2-3 times more power and much less common sense.
