The GM Authority Take

Cadillac XT4 sales fell again in North America halfway through the year despite offering a refreshed model for 2024. While Buick Envision sales dropped even more, its placement here, along with the XT4, enabled GM to place second overall. The two small crossovers face strong competition from Acura, Audi, BMW, Genesis, Lexus, crosstown rival Lincoln, and Mercedes-Benz.

About Cadillac XT4

The fully refreshed 2024 Cadillac XT4 debuts with a new exterior design; an overhauled cabin headlined by a new 33-inch, 9K-resolution LED color touchscreen lifted straight from the Cadillac Lyriq; new tech features; and more than a dozen safety features now included as standard.

The first photos leaked online show that the XT4 will eventually receive the top-rated GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assistance system.

The trim level lineup once again lists Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport, each offering unique styling attributes and is available in front-wheel- and all-wheel-drive configurations.

Under the hood, the refreshed 2024 XT4 carries over the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine, producing 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and is mated to the GM nine-speed automatic transmission.

The upcoming 2025 Cadillac XT4 will have more standard safety features than the refreshed 2024 model, including the Active Safety Package, offered as standard on Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels. However, it will drop two safety features: Automatic Speed Limit Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition.

Also, the 2025 XT4 drops the Luxury trim level, with the Premium Luxury becoming the entry-level trim.

While production of the 2025 XT4 has kicked off, it will be paused for much of the 2025 calendar year as the GM Fairfax plant in Kansas City is retooled for the next generation of the Chevy Bolt EV, which is currently expected to arrive for the 2026 model year.

First-ever 2025 Cadillac Optiq, an EV replacement for the XT4

On the all-electric front, the Cadillac Lyriq is the luxury marque’s first-ever EV and its all-electric replacement for the aging XT5. The new all-electric 2025 Cadillac Optiq is now the entry-level EV offering to eventually replace the XT4, which itself received a refresh for the 2024 model year. These models precede the larger 2026 Cadillac Vistiq, an all-electric three-row crossover set to round out the EV portfolio, slotting in the same space occupied by the Cadillac XT6. The Cadillac Escalade IQ full-sizer will slot above the Vistiq.

Additionally, a Cadillac V-Series EV is set to debut this year, likely as the Cadillac Lyriq-V.

  1. It seems like all the crossovers are following a similar path to the XTS.

  2. Even the new Buick Envista and Chevrolet Trax designers got buyers more excited about their design and value than spending cash on a baby Caddie ! Cadillac Division has failed on many current front and rear design renditions ,put the prestige &style back in Cadillac ‘ before it becomes irrelevant in the market place !

  3. I have yet to see a single advertisement for the updated XT4. GM’s frequent television advertising for the aging current model of the GMC Terrain has greatly helped its sales yet nothing for most Cadillac models.

  4. GM tends to run on very looooooong product lifecycles, while the competition seems to be cranking out something totally fresh every 20 minutes. New products grab attention. Rehashed products, not so much anymore.

    1. The long product cycles are just part of gm’s “all electric future” strategy 🙄

How some people keep their jobs at gm I’ll never know.

  5. The Cadillac XT4 would probably sell better if it was offered with a MORE POWERFUL ENGINE. I would definitely be interested. Offer a hotrodded version and watch sales increase. GM haters need not respond …

    1. Agree. We were looking at the RDX vs the XT4 a couple of years ago. The Caddy interior was okay, but it was a dog performance wise. I didn’t expect a rocket ship, but the performance was so bad I considered it to be marginally unsafe. I would feel like I was taking my life in my hands anytime I was passing a semi on the two lane.

We ended up with a Palisade. It’s in a slightly different class, but at that time the interior was nicer than the Cadillac and the performance was much better.

The interior upgrade looks nice. Something close to 300 hp would help make it feel like you’re driving a premium vehicle. If that could happen with a hybrid, so much the better.

  6. I cross-shopped the XT4 against a Lincoln Corsair, and ended up buying the Corsair GT (PHEV) with BlueCruise. I would have bought the XT4 if it had better performance (0-60) and better gas mileage (hybrid), and Super Cruise. Those three things prevented me from using my GM employee discount on the Cadillac. I’m hoping when I’m ready to replace the Lincoln, that the XT4 or XT5 will have a hybrid option to improve the performance and mileage, and finally offer Super Cruise as an option.

  7. I have a 2012 CTS4 Premium coupe with 318 HP that is still like new. Why would I want to go backwards?
