Yet another luxury sedan has been discontinued in the U.S. market, this time the Infiniti Q50. The Q50 will cease production following the conclusion of the 2024 model year. With the departure of the Q50, its rival from Cadillac, the CT5, has even less competition to worry about.
According to a report by The Autopian, Infiniti has confirmed the Q50’s impending discontinuation.
“Yes, confirming 2024 is the last model year for the Q50,” Infiniti Communications Manager Marleen Yowakim said in a statement to the publication. This marks the end of an 11-model-year run for the nameplate, which originally launched for the 2014 model year as a successor to the Infiniti G35. Infiniti refreshed the Q50 for the 2016 model year.
The Infiniti Q50, built on the Nissan FM platform, was a direct rival to the Cadillac CT5. Throughout its production, the Q50 offered a slew of different powertrain options, including four-cylinder and V6 gasoline engines, as well as a hybrid variant. The most interesting of these was the high-performance Red Sport 400 model, which was rated at 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque, capable of running from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds.
With the Q50’s discontinuation, the Cadillac CT5 now has even fewer competitors in the luxury sedan segment. The Q50’s departure follows the recent discontinuation of the Volvo S60 and Jaguar XF.
Despite the ongoing contraction of the sedan segment in the U.S., it sounds as though General Motors will remain steadfast in its commitment to the four-door body style, at least for the time being. In a statement made in June, GM Global Design Vice President Michael Simcoe said, “We will certainly have a sedan in the portfolio at some point in the future. Sedans aren’t dead.”

I just want my CT 4 here before the snow flies
I grew up in a Nissan family. My old man had two Pathfinders (1996 and a 2000). Both were solid tanks and phenomenal SUVs. So growing up, I loved Infinitis especially the QX4 (which is basically the Pathfinder in business attire) and the Q45 (which was basically Infinitis answer to the Lexus LS). Its so sad to see Infiniti deteriorate the way it did. People keep hating on Cadillac and Buick for losing their way yet these two brands are selling more cars in the US than Infiniti and Acura.
I have owned a few Infiniti’s over the years a G35 Sedan was an excellent car, a G37 Coupe still a pretty good car except for the design of their power steering tank that would cause it to suck air that I had to pay to get replaced. Then an AWD QX70 that was still a great SUV and one Nissan Xterra Pro4x. Infiniti lost my business when they killed building the Enrouge and it has completely gone down hill from there. I wouldnt own another one after driving a Q50 a couple of times. So we went with an Audi SQ5 which has been an excellent car so far. But Nissan\Infiniti lost their way in the US and the products they are offering today. They can no longer compete with Lexus or Cadillac and their offerings today. They are so far behind the only decent Vehicle is the GTR which is way over priced and the New Nissimo Z as well is way over priced for what it is.
When you keep the design the same for 10 years, it’s no surprise when people stop buying them. This was long overdue. Had they redesigned it and kept it competitive, maybe it could have lived on longer.
I’m surprised Infiniti still exists.

Expected with < 3K US sales in H1. < 1500 are in inventory.
Crossovers are more functional with 2x trunk space and folding 2nd, 3rd row seats makes gives them a van like volume.
Malibu will also end by the end of the year.
More sedans can be expected to go down in the coming years.
Besides EV platforms will support crossovers since battery takes few mm of chassis height.
