BoostDistrict Compares Supercharged And Turbocharged C8 Corvette Stingrays: Video

The C8 Corvette Stingray makes for a fantastic drive in stock guise, throwing down with 490 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque thanks to the mid-mounted 6.2L V8 LT2 engine. However, for some buyers, stock is never enough, and to that end, Texas-based speed shop BoostDistrict is offering up a pair of forced induction performance kits, including a supercharger setup and a twin-turbo setup. The question is – which is better? Now, we’re diving into that question with the following 20-minute video.
The video, which comes to us from the BoostDistrict YouTube channel, discusses the advantages of equipping a supercharger versus two turbos when modifying the C8 Corvette Stingray. It highlights a real-world example of both setups.
Of course, one of the big differences between the two forced induction setups comes down to the power numbers, with the supercharger kit throwing down roughly 700 horsepower and the twin-turbo kit capable of making well over 1,000 horsepower. The supercharger setup can likely be tuned to make more power as well, but if it’s pure, unbridled output that you’re looking for, the turbo setup is probably the way to go. To note, the turbo setup in this video makes 650 horsepower, while the supercharger setup makes around 700 horsepower.
While insane output figures are important for breaking records at the track (or simply for bragging rights), street driving is more about power delivery and feel, and to that end, the two setups are quite different indeed. The supercharger setup has a certain immediacy and ferocity to it, plus the associated whine of the blower, while the smooth surge in power from the turbos is complemented by its own unique sounds from the induction noise and blow-off valves.

Ever since owning my 1958 Studebaker Golden Hawk, I’ve been a supercharger fan. The sound of a free flowing exhaust and the instant response of the loud pedal can’t be accomplished with a turbocharger setup. Put my vote in for supercharging.
Well, while supercharging has its instantaneous rewards, you are looking at worse gas mileage due to parasitic loss and that’s not cheap nor is its initial cost. Turbo’s will save you gas mileage if/when you keep your foot out of it. If realistic, how often do you bury the go pedal?? Racing is one thing, streetable daily is another. Watch a Richard Holdner vid on Youtube and you’ll see/learn a whole lot, IMHO.
BTW….Why is the new ZR1 twin turbo vs supercharged C7 ZR1? Yeah, they know what the exotics have been doing for a long time. Porsche has it’s new electric turbos and Ferrari has it TT setups too. Another thought to is wear. How long before a blower needs a rebuild? Don’t get me wrong as I love both means of boost with a nostalgic look back at turbos feeding superchargers…Yep, they exist.
